So that CBS could broadcast the "stars" instead of the 1812 Overture. Which they appear to have put on before the national broadcast started.

This is a last-ditch effort to round up new sponsors because Mugar, the major sponsor, bows out this year.

My cue used to be end of 1812, by whomever was broadcasting it. If anyone was. At any rate, I drive around looking for highest spot from which I have a clear line of sight.

What they don't publish is exactly where they're parking the fireworks barge. They aways pick a spot where the people on the esplanade can see, but lines of sight from Somerville differ sometimes.

Well, it was "fireworks over Target" again. Sigh. As I drove to the street on the side of the McGrath Highway, an elevated road that people used stand on to watch, a policeperson screamed at me to get off the bridge, which was mean because I wasn' t even on the bridge. Apparently even looking for a spot alongside the bridge was out. So I drove to any break in trees through which I could see fireworks, which brought me back to that Target parking lot I wound up in last year as well. No elevation, & far too many lights, but I got too see a fair amount of fireworks none the less.
