I hope Osborne was lying in that interview he gave on Tuesday and really has a plan for Brexit.

Birmingham just went Leave and the BBC and ITV just called it for Leave.

Brexit is a reality.

And just to add to the craziness, Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation--only 13 months after winning re-election.

Or next woman. I don't know if: Cameron picks his successor, the Conservative Party picks their new leader, or the United Kingdom has a whole new parliamentary election. Normally, the office would go to the Deputy Prime Minister, but Cameron hasn't had a Deputy Prime Minister during his second term. Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrat [not a willfully ignorant typo] Party, was Cameron's Deputy Prime Minister--but only because the Conservatives failed to capture a majority of seats in Parliament in the 2010 election and the other parties formed an anti-Conservative alliance. After the Conservatives won the majority last May, Clegg was gone... but the office of Deputy Prime Minister was never filled.

One other consequence of the Leave vote that I forgot to mention: Scotland is strongly considering another independence referendum, as Scots overwhelmingly want to stay in the EU. So this could be the issue that finally gives Scotland its freedom.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The people of the United Kingdom have exercised the sacred right of all free peoples. They have declared their independence from the European Union, and have voted to reassert control over their own politics, borders and economy. A Trump Administration pledges to strengthen our ties with a free and independent Britain, deepening our bonds in commerce, culture and mutual defense. The whole world is more peaceful and stable when our two countries – and our two peoples – are united together, as they will be under a Trump Administration.

Come November, the American people will have the chance to re-declare their independence. Americans will have a chance to vote for trade, immigration and foreign policies that put our citizens first. They will have the chance to reject today’s rule by the global elite, and to embrace real change that delivers a government of, by and for the people. I hope America is watching, it will soon be time to believe in America again.

Tell me, flock, how did you expect the U.S. economy to respond to two terms of an Obama Administration? How did your expectations compare to what actually happened? Weren't you one of the people saying that inflation will take off any day now, and that only a Romney Administration could bring unemployment down to 6%? --Bob

The biggest Google searches from the UK AFTER the vote were:

#1: What happens when we leave the EU?

#2: What is the EU?

Wow- such informed voters!

And it didn't take long for Nigel Farage to back down (and try to distance himself from) the pledge that the 350 M GBP that go to the EU as payments could now go towards the NHS:

So, you are saying you are PROUD of our economic condition? He has doubled the national debt, millions of people are out of the workforce, so they aren't counted, Obamacare is going under, our credit rating has been downgraded and the only reason we're still barely afloat is because the Fed has kept interest rates near zero for several years and flooded the currency. Yeah, I think my expectations are pretty on track. And I don't see any improvement in the near future.

Politifact dealt with that claim last year and pretty much debunked it. When you take away old people, people still in high school and college, and those not wanting to work because they have enough money not to (i.e., early retirees), the figure goes way down. According to this article, the number of "discouraged workers," people who want to work but quit working because they felt there were no jobs available was approximately 700,000, (the number officially unemployed in this article was 8.3 million), so even adding them would not make the unemployment rate go up significantly.
[The 93 million Trump claimed were out of work] includes lots of people who likely aren’t looking for work. It includes every American of retirement age -- 65 and older. It includes every high-school student at least 16 years of age. It includes every college and many graduate or professional-school students. It includes every person who has a disability that makes it impossible for them to work. It includes parents who are choosing to stay home to take care of their kids. It includes every adult who’s gone back to school full-time. It even includes trust-fund kids who are living off investments.

Put it all together and this is not a trivial group of people.

Out of the 93.8 million Americans age 16 and up who are deemed "not in the labor force," 9.7 million of them are between 16 and 19 years of age. Another 5.7 million are between 20 and 24. And 37.8 million are age 65 and over. (In fact, 17.5 million are over 75 years old.)
Conservatives are great at throwing out numbers and claims about "millions" of people without any support. And common sense would also tell you that there will be more total unemployed people now than when Reagan was president because we have millions of more people in the country now that 40 years ago.

Do you remember why our credit rating was downgraded? (Not that that's had any effect on the interest rates demanded for U.S. sovereign debt by people with real money at stake.) It's because the Republicans (led by Cruz) very nearly caused us to default on our debt by refusing to raise the debt ceiling. Pure politics. No economic basis at all. For Republicans to cause the problem and then point to it as a reason we're in trouble -- well, see my first line above. --Bob

You could not be more wrong.

S&P downgraded the U.S. debt for the 1st time in 70 years in 2011 when Congress INCREASED the debt limit.

S&P's AA+ rating remains the same from 2011 to now, unchanged by the 2014 heroism of Ted Cruz.

No it wasn't.
Do not quote me as fact a political opinion that is obviously partisan. Ted Cruz did not create a 20 trillion dollar national debt, sir. There were a lot of people involved in getting our credit downgraded. You may blame it on Cruz, but it can be equally blamed on everyone who has contributed to the irresponsible handling of the federal treasury. And for you to blame it on Ted Cruz or the Republicans shows how blindly and robotically you are influenced by propaganda.

S&P attributed the downgrade to “'political brinkmanship' in the debate over the debt," which "made the U.S. government’s ability to manage its finances “'less stable, less effective and less predictable.'” You are correct, though, that the crisis occurred before Cruz was elected to the Senate. --Bob
