Two classics sandwich a much less heralded power pop tune in today's trio of items from my list of
favorite songs released from 1957 to the present.
314. MR. TAMBOURINE MAN-THE BYRDS (1965)
Album: Mr. Tambourine Man
Nobody interpreted Dylan songs like these guys, who were a leading
force in ushering in the genre of folk-rock. Leader Roger McGuinn was
inspired to pick up a Rickenbacker guitar, which he used on this song,
after seeing John Lennon in "A Hard Day's Night". It became his signature sound.
313. ONE WORLD-TODD RUNDGREN AND UTOPIA (1982)
Album: Swing To The Right
Ringing guitars lead us into a Beatles-like backbeat for this fist in the
air power pop anthem. Sing along..or shout along if you'd prefer.
312. WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT-THE WHO (1969)
Album: Tommy
I'd rate it higher, but it really works better in the context of the whole album
rather than as a stand-alone song, as it is the final song of the group's masterful
rock opera. Still, the song puts an epic cap on the 4-sided album.

Three more really good songs and we're still in the 300s.

Hopefully that doesn't mean you'll hate the Top 100

I should have phrased that better!
