Two dead in shooting at UCLA

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Wed Jun 01, 2016 1:13 pm

UCLA police are reporting that two are dead after a shooting at Boelter Hall, the engineering building. Boelter is adjacent to the Math Sciences building where I spent much of my time as a graduate student there. I would frequently walk through Boelter to reach Lot 8, where I kept my car before I moved on campus.

PlacentiaSoccerMom reports that PlacentiaSoccerKid2, who is a student at UCLA, has checked in and is fine. --Bob

Terrible. Murder-suicide. Victim was identified.
A professor, William S. Klug, was identified by UCLA Student Body President Michael Skiles as the slain individual.
Klug was described as easy-going, according to one friend, and an "an empathetic, brilliant teacher" as California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom put it.
A father of two, Klug was killed on campus in an apparent murder-suicide in one of the university's engineering buildings.

Sad, he had young children who at least for one, he was the child's team's baseball coach. Now the kids have no father.

No ID on the shooter yet.

He's been identified as Mainak Sarkar. Contrary to earlier reports, he was not a student despondent about his grades. He's already received a Ph.D. from UCLA's engineering program. --Bob

Wow. This guy was nuts!

Had a kill list. He killed his ex-girlfriend in Minnesota then traveled to California to kill this professor who he accused of stealing code.

<note> The link above does not identify the dead female as a former girlfriend, but another site did.
