Ralph Fiennes and Gerard Butler appeared in a modern-day version of Coriolanus a couple of years back (I was actually surprised that Butler handled Shakesperean dialogue fairly well).

John Gielgud was also in the 70's version of Julius Caesar (playing Caesar this time around), opposite Jason Robards as Brutus.

A-38. This acclaimed film was based on an unpublished autobiographical novel by a drug addict and career thief who was in prison at the time of the film’s release

A couple more and a couple of partials.

Ian McKellen (Apt Pupil) was in Richard III with Maggie Smith.

Al Pacino did a documentary called Looking for Richard that was essentially about the making of his production of Richard III, and in it, he recreated a number of scenes from the play with various actors, including Kevin Spacey.

Leonardo di Caprio (The Revenant) was in Baz Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet.

As I mentioned earlier, Olivia Hussey (Black Christmas) was in the 60's version of Romeo and Juliet.

John Gielgud did a film called Prospero's Books that was a takeoff on The Tempest.

And Kevin Kline did A Midsummer Night's Dream (I remember him riding a bicycle in this).

I don't want to just look these up just yet.

He was familiar with the play because his first acting gig was a part in another version of it 10 years earlier.

I confess to looking this one up, but I had a hunch that no one would get it otherwise. Francesca Annis was in Flipper's New Adventure, and she laid herself bare, quite literally, as Lady Macbeth opposite Jon Finch (Hugh Hefner produced the movie). Quite a memorable performance.

Perfunctory WEDNESDAY NIGHT CONSOLIDATION (Boonie was in a minor car accident today - he's fine but we went to the ER because, as some of you might recall, he had cervical stenosis surgery in 2008).

Paul Scofield was in Mel Gibson's version of Hamlet, so there's a match to Mad Max.

I know Nicol WIlliamson was known for his Hamlet, but I'm not sure who played with him.

I thought maybe it was time to start looking things up, since we're kind of stalled.

Believe it or not, STRANGE BREW is based on Hamlet. So B-9 Rick Moranis is paired with A-37 The Virgin Spring (Max Von Sydow). That may be the weirdest pairing of this whole puzzle.

B-10 NATHAN FILLION + A-16 THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (Amy Acker) = Much Ado About Nothing (2012).

B-17 JOHN TURTURRO + A-3 YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (Peter Boyle) = Men of Respect (1990) -- based on Macbeth

B-19 ALICIA SILVERSTONE + A-20 VALKYRIE (Kenneth Branagh) = Love's Labours Lost (2000)

B-20 DJIMON HOUNSOU + A-15 THE HUNDRED FOOT JOURNEY (Helen Mirren) = The Tempest (2010)

More later.

Two for the price of one here.

I knew Ethan Hawke had done a modern day version of Hamlet a few years back, so I looked it up to check his co-stars and it turns out Kyle McLachlan (Showgirls) was in it.

What I didn't realize was that Hawke had also done a modern day version of Cymbeline recently with Ed Harris (Truman Show).

OK - with the sixth use of Gielgud and the Toby Stephens match, all the actors and movies have been used at least once.

As far as I can tell, we need three more matches. Two will involve the second use of an actor to give us the five we need there and the third MUST be Gielgud to give us his seventh use.

Game #159: The Screenplay’s the Thing

Identify the 45 movies in List A and the 45 actors in List B. (Every other clue is a quotation.) Then, form 58 pairs, each consisting of one movie and one actor, according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself.

Three movies will be used twice, one will be used three times, and two will be used five times.

Movies used twice:

A-25. DOG DAY AFTERNOON
A-30. SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES
A-45. CITIZEN KANE

Movie used three times:

A-41. REBECCA

Movie used five times:

A-20. VALKYRIE

Five actors will be used twice, one will be used three times, and one will be used seven times.

Actors used twice (need two more):

B-3. KEANU REEVES
B-23. ETHAN HAWKE
B-30. MICHAEL YORK

Actor used three times:

B-18. PAUL SCOFIELD

Actor used seven times (need one more match):

B-13. JOHN GIELGUD

MATCHES (as of 4:15 p.m. on June 9 = 55 of 58 matches)

B-1. MAGGIE SMITH + A-28. APT PUPIL (Ian McKellen) = Richard III
B-2. JET LI + A-26. QUEEN OF THE DAMNED (Aaliyah) = Romeo Must Die

You've used Citizen Kane three times, not twice. Other than that, everything is right.

Figuring out the other movie that needs to be used five times shouldn't be difficult, and will take care of two of your remaining matches.

I apologize for not participating in this game after the first couple of days, but Shakespeare is way out of my league.
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)
