It can't be Soul Train because that continued well past 1981. So it must be Don Kirshner and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.

if it was a movie with Prince, it must've been Under The Cherry Moon, which...you guessed it...I never saw (sensing a pattern here?).

ahhhhh, finally something I've seen! Don Kirschner, Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. Although I MUCH preferred the earlier but shorter-lived IN CONCERT on ABC, on late night Fridays...they had huge acts you never saw anywhere else, and unlike the Kirschner show, the acts were ALWAYS filmed at an ACTUAL concert as I recall.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I accepted The Midnight Special and Wolfman Jack since, coincidentally, that show ended in 1981 and had a host with a distinctive voice. It wasn't syndicated, but that's too small an issue.

Points:

This was harder than I anticipated, so please don't be scared away!
