Greatest sympathies, Saucy. You have my permission to say it with as many swear words as you may wish to add. I hope you will start to feel better quickly!

There's anti-viral stuff they can give you to lessen the attack, but only when diagnosed early.

I won't give you my sister's horror story 'cause hopefully your case will be less severe. My sympathies are with you.

I asked my doc for the vaccine, even though I'm avoiding vaccines because think one triggered my horrific skin condition, only to be told insurance wouldn't pay because "I wasn't old enough" (like the virus celebrated birthdays or something). Now I'm old enough.

Ouch, sympathies.

A friend, who is very accident-prone, said Shingles was far worse pain than any of his other major injuries.

Much sympathy (though not really understanding the full misery) from here. My wife had a bout with them when pregnant with our youngest. Was not a fun time. Hang in there.

After I had a shingles outbreak I asked my doctor if the vaccine would help in the future and he said it wouldn't
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Yes, yes they do.

And I had a blessedly mild outbreak.

Also, as some might recall, my shingles were diagnosed on the Bored.

My sister diagnosed hers herself only to have a doctor she was taking my cousin to look at them & say "not like shingles enough". She went to another doctor but that wrong diagnosis delayed her, & with shingles time in getting the anti-viral agent to work is essential.

Under my BCBS insurance vaccines are free.

The Baboo suffered through a bout of shingles about six months ago. The biggest danger for her was that one outbreak was pretty close to her right eye and both her regular doctor and the eye doctor he referred her to worried about that a lot. Luckily, prompt action kept things from being really awful.
