Lyrically Speaking - 3/30/16

#1 Post by elwoodblues » Tue Mar 29, 2016 8:00 pm

You will match these songs into pairs, but there is a twist. One song will be used in two different matches, and one will not be used at all. The one that is not used offers a clue to the theme. One point for the title, one point for the artist and one point for each correct match.

1. Get Thai'd, you're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest:
"I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine"

2. Took a corner, side swiped a truck
Crossed my fingers just for luck
My fenders was clicking the guard rail post
The guy beside me was white as a ghost

3. Well I was stranded in the jungle
Trying to take in all the heat they was giving
The night is dark but the sidewalk's bright
And lined with the light of the living

4. I’m in the high-fidelity first-class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet

5. We look for love, no time for tears
Wasted water's all that is and it don't make no flowers grow
Good things might come to those who wait
Not to those who wait too late, we got to go for all we know

6. Don't you know you'll break my heart
When I watch you close that door?
'Cause I know I won't see you anymore

7. Tradin' my time for the pay I get
Livin' on money that I ain't made yet
Gonna keep going, gotta make my way
While I live for the end of the day

8. Like a cat and a mouse (cat and a mouse)
From door to door and-a house to house
Don't you pretend you don't know
What I'm talking about

That was a good theme. As I suspected, I wanted to kick myself after seeing the answer to the one I missed. I should have at least guessed for a half credit based on the two possibilities I mentioned.

8. Like a cat and a mouse (cat and a mouse)
From door to door and-a house to house
Don't you pretend you don't know
What I'm talking about

Matches: Unfortunately, not much to work with here. I guess I will just have to make wild guesses.

1 and 4, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 3 and 6

The one that is not used offers a clue to the theme. One point for the title, one point for the artist and one point for each correct match.

1. Get Thai'd, you're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest:
"I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine"

One Night In Bangkok - Murray Head

2. Took a corner, side swiped a truck
Crossed my fingers just for luck
My fenders was clicking the guard rail post
The guy beside me was white as a ghost

Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen

3. Well I was stranded in the jungle
Trying to take in all the heat they was giving
The night is dark but the sidewalk's bright
And lined with the light of the living

Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - Bruce Springsteen

4. I’m in the high-fidelity first-class traveling set
And I think I need a Lear jet

Money - Pink Floyd

5. We look for love, no time for tears
Wasted water's all that is and it don't make no flowers grow
Good things might come to those who wait
Not to those who wait too late, we got to go for all we know

Just The Two Of Us - Grover Washington Jr.
I accepted Bill Withers for the artist point, but you needed Mr. Washington for the matching.

6. Don't you know you'll break my heart
When I watch you close that door?
'Cause I know I won't see you anymore

Don't Pull Your Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds

7. Tradin' my time for the pay I get
Livin' on money that I ain't made yet
Gonna keep going, gotta make my way
While I live for the end of the day

Five O'clock World - Vogues or Bowling For Soup

8. Like a cat and a mouse (cat and a mouse)
From door to door and-a house to house
Don't you pretend you don't know
What I'm talking about

Jane - Jefferson Starship

1-5 One/Washington
5-8 Two/Jefferson

Gosh. Figuring out that it was a song about a car wasn't all that difficult from the lyrics. And I didn't even get the right car!

Thank you, BTW, for gracing my "Present" answers as an actual play, worthy of an actual 0.

If Hamilton had been replaced on the ten I was going to say I got this game in just in time.
