Beth reminds me of Rafferbee, except she's a few days younger and has nowhere near the trivia skills.

5K: Never seen movie. ATA

10K: I think they're giving you clue that it was 31 years earlier than when show taped. Otherwise none of dates are special. I was right.

Huh? This question had nothing to do with when the show was taped.

Well, the show taped in 2015 or 2016. 1986 + 31 = 2017. Very close to taping year, no longer futuristic.

Good math, but that has nothing to do with the question. Disneyland opened in 1955. On opening day, the year 1986 was 31 years in the future. Even if you ask this question 100 years from now, the answer will still be the same. The question was essentially just an indirect way of asking what year Disneyland opened.

Upon opening, Disneyland’s Tomorrowland was designed to represent what futuristic time - then 31 distant years away?
A: 1971 B: 1986
C: 1999 D: 2021

OK, I did indeed misread the Q. I thought they were asking when Tomorrowland opened, & I further thought it was a later-opening exhibit.

I undoubtably was influenced by stuff like Epcot (a terrible sounding name) which was a well-publicized later exhibit. In a diff location, too.

Do I get to admit both Disneyland & Disneyworld give me the creeps? Giant Mickeys etc are like clowns to me. Worse. I like rides fine, but found out when I was once travelling very near the Florida one that you pay a lot to get in & get no rides w/ admission.

Not for me.

I know people on this group talk up the restaurants, but we have great ethnic restaurants in Boston. Don't need to go to a theme park for them.

Beth answers C: 1999.
The right answer is B: 1986.
Beth wins $5,000.
We were at Disneyland for its 40th anniversary in 1995, so the park was opened in 1955. Add 31 and you get 1986.

It's not a name, it's an acronym for "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow"

So ghosts are fine, but Mickey & Minnie creep you out?

Both Disneyland and Disney World phased out separate tickets for rides in 1981, mostly due to competition with Magic Mountain in CA.

Here's an article about Disneyland tickets:

Well, that tells you when my trip toward the Florida park was. I recall the entry fee being $20.00 or so. That you got no rides for that really boiled me. So I didn't go in.

And Epcot, whatever it stands for, got such huge press, at least wherever I was at the time, when it opened. I remember thinking "gee, with all their $$ Disney could have come up with a better name". Yes, I know its an acronym, but nobody says the whole name.

It kinda reminded me of Edsel. But at least its still around.

(& yes, I realize Edsel-the-person far outlasted Edsel-the-car.)
