Lyrically Speaking - 2/29/16

#1 Post by BobRossAfroPainter » Mon Feb 29, 2016 7:58 am

I'm embarrassed to have been one of LB's artistic inspirations. Sure, I couldn't draw happy little squirrels or unicorns or possums... but at least my finished canvas didn't look like someone had taken a leak on it. And I didn't use computers to create my art... that's cheating in my studio! Anyway, I don't know why I'm bothering to host this LSWE game for LB other than the theme is art and artists, and since this is the final week of the contest, we can all go back to happy little political threads and RIPS in a few days and forget any of these crappy songs were ever even posted here...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. You're still in bed at ten and work began at eight
You've burned your breakfast
So far things are going great

2. No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not forsee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the setting sun
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes

3. Love comes down upon us
We flow like water
Burning with the hope of insight
Feathered books, the colors
Of the bright elation
Stolen in the sight of love

4. Do you smile to tempt a lover, _______?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there

5. When I come home at night
I bolt the door real tight
People call me on the phone, I'm trying to avoid
But can the people on TV see me or am I just paranoid

6. Her weapons were her crystal eyes
Making every man a man
Black as the dark night she was
Got what no-one else had

7. Like the strangers that you've met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

8. As time goes on
I realize
Just what you mean
To me
And now
Now that you're near
Promise your love
That I've waited to share
And dreams
Of our moments together

9. A simple touch of your hand,
And everything is right.
The gentle way you look at me,
When we kiss goodnight.
You've given me the freedom no other love has known
And now I thank you girl , thank you girl

10. You are more than now
You are for always
I can see in you
My dreams come true
Don't you ever go away

11. Daddy said, "Son, you better see the world
I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to leave
But remember one thing don't lose your head
To a woman that'll spend your bread"
So I got out

12. I bruise you
You bruise me
We both bruise too easily
Too easily to let it show

In honor of this special day, you get a leap song today!

13. My life, it used to be incomplete
'Till I saw what I was looking for at a drive-in swap meet
My life it won't be the same again
Now I'm proud to say the king lives on inside my den

It's my turn to type the answer, and BeBe's turn to look at pictures. (You may have noticed that BeBe always seems to look for the pictures. She really likes doing that, so I let her. If you ever had a contest that was all about looking for pictures, BeBe might win.) Anyway, we think we know one of the songs, and we think we know the category based on that, and we're going for it!

This is the one we think we know:
4. Do you smile to tempt a lover, _______?
Or is this your way to hide a broken heart?
Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there
This is Mona Lisa. It was sung by that pretty lady or her father or both of them. The real Miss Lisa was a person who was painted a long time ago by a man named Mr. Leonardo. So, the category is "songs about people named Leonardo or painted by people named Leonardo," we think.

Me and BeBe aren't looking for any more points here. We know we remembered the pretty lady singer's name too late to get any credit for that. She was Natalie King Cole, and her father was Old King Cole.
