Who Trump reminds me of
It finally hit me that Donald Trump reminds me of Jake Featherston from Harry Turtledove's American Empire series.

Now that you mention it, I do see the similarities.TheCalvinator24 wrote:It finally hit me that Donald Trump reminds me of Jake Featherston from Harry Turtledove's American Empire series.

I see Arthur Jensen, Ned Beatty's character from Network.

I've used that comparison in conversations with my fraternity big brother, who, despite being reasonably intelligent; a History major in college; and a Christian, still seems to think Trump is the best choice.Vandal wrote:Or

What reason to you have to compare Cruz to P.T. Barnum? Serious question.Jeemie wrote:Nah, that's Ted Cruz.Vandal wrote:Or

I've been thinking Nehemiah Scudder from Robert Heinlein's "If This Goes On".
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Because he tries to suck you in that he's something different, but underneath he pulls off the full repertoire of dirty tricks that just about every insider politician pulls...with the exception that Cruz even pisses off his colleagues with how and how often he does it.BackInTex wrote:What reason to you have to compare Cruz to P.T. Look, I'm a cynic- I assume every politician , to paraphrase Jeffrey Pelt, is a cheat and a liar, and when they're not kissing babies, they're stealing their lollipops.
But when you start pissing off the other cheats and liars, that shows me you've taken it to another level (and it also doesn't bode well for being an effective President that you're potentially burning bridges with those whom you'll have to work closely).
Ted Cruz is human slime...a used car salesman on steroids.

Who Trump reminds me of: America with all its contradictions
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Trump is what happens when a significant part of the populace is so out of its mind with anger, I wouldn't trust them with the decision on what clothes to wear for the day, let alone whom to vote for President.themanintheseersuckersuit wrote:Who Trump reminds me of: America with all its contradictions

Trump is either low T or high T, bipolar, filter-free, and in need of rehab.

Oh. By the way, the best way to piss off cheats and liars is to play by the rules, make them play by the rules, and tell the truth. That's what Cruz has done as far as I can tell.
From what I've seen, Cruz says what he means and backs it up with action. The filibuster that pissed so many (liars and cheats) off is an example. He stood his ground, he stood OUR ground, that we elected him to defend. His ground may not be popular among some groups but that does not make him dishonest. In fact, quite the opposite that he continues to say what he means even though it may lose him votes and support among his peers.

Along with dishonest push polls and dishonest treatment of Rubio that got his communications director fired.silverscreenselect wrote:Apparently, that doesn't extend very far in his campaign:BackInTex wrote:

Along with the dishonest tactics in the Senate where he broke unwritten and written rules about how to treat fellow Senators with respect, and revealing conversations he had with them that they had every expectation would remain private, for the sole purpose of selling books to promote himself.
The dude is about making a name for himself, not about making lives better for Americans.

My initial post was in error. Featherston actually had a core set of principles (as repugnant as they were).
