Lyrically Speaking - 2/19/16

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Feb 19, 2016 6:44 am

It's time to break out the hankies and the crying guitars, because today's game is a tribute to songs about the blues... specifically, songs that mention "blues" in the title. You may think it's odd for me to choose this theme for a Friday game, but then again, you probably don't have Wednesdays and Thursdays off work. I don't want to see any sad scores in this game, or I'll make you sing about the LSWE Blues...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Every time I call my baby, and ask to get a date
My boss says, "No dice son, you gotta work late"

2. The sailors and the pilots
The soldiers and the law
The payoffs and the ripoffs
And the things nobody saw

3. Well, I woke up this morning
And I got myself a beer
Well, I woke up this morning
And I got myself a beer
The future's uncertain
And the end is always near

4. This is the day of the expanding man
That shape is my shade
There where I used to stand

5. The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off

6. When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, "Son,
Always by a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns,"

7. Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second
Without hesitation
And never forget I'm your man

8. I was the one who came runnin' when you were lonely
I haven't lived one day not lovin' you only
But kisses and love won't carry me til you marry me Bill

9. Rockets, moon shots
Spend it on the have nots
Money, we make it
Fore we see it you take it

10. Do you want to see me
Crawl across the floor to you
Do you want to hear me
Beg you to take me back

11. Well, I should be sittin' in an air conditioned office in a swivel chair
Talkin' some trash to the secretaries,
Sayin', "Here, now mam-ma, come on over here."

12. She makes the place a jumping
The way she moves around
She like the rump and rolling
That's when she get it out

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions "Blues" in the title.

Looking for attendance points. And for "I never felt more like singin the blues cuz I never thought that I'd ever lose your love. You got me singin the blues. I never felt more like cryin all night -- everything's wrong, nothin seems right...") If this is actually, I'll put a spoiler around it. And collect my prescience points.

If I was smart enough or had patience enough to do so, I would've posted a Facebook pic of me singing with the caption "I Got Those The Very Last Lyric Kept Me From Running The Table Blues"...or maybe a pic of me in the RoF..."A Couple Hundredths of a Seconds Short of the Hotseat Blues"..ah, the choices. Instead, I will make my response a tribute to the man who gave us ALL the blues..in a good way. It won't win me the image bonus, but I feel it fitting and proper.

"Summertime Blues" - Alan Jackson

2. The sailors and the pilots
The soldiers and the law
The payoffs and the ripoffs
And the things nobody saw

"Smuggler's Blues" - Glenn Frey

3. Well, I woke up this morning
And I got myself a beer
Well, I woke up this morning
And I got myself a beer
The future's uncertain
And the end is always near

"Roadhouse Blues" - The Doors

4. This is the day of the expanding man
That shape is my shade
There where I used to stand

5. The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off

6. When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, "Son,
Always by a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns,"

"Folsom County Blues" - Johnny Cash

7. Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second
Without hesitation
And never forget I'm your man

"I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" - Elton John

8. I was the one who came runnin' when you were lonely
I haven't lived one day not lovin' you only
But kisses and love won't carry me til you marry me Bill

"Wedding Bell Blues" - ?

9. Rockets, moon shots
Spend it on the have nots
Money, we make it
Fore we see it you take it

10. Do you want to see me
Crawl across the floor to you
Do you want to hear me
Beg you to take me back

11. Well, I should be sittin' in an air conditioned office in a swivel chair
Talkin' some trash to the secretaries,
Sayin', "Here, now mam-ma, come on over here."

12. She makes the place a jumping
The way she moves around
She like the rump and rolling
That's when she get it out

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions "Blues" in the title.

"Green With Envy Blues" - Ludwig Von Drake (as voiced by Paul Frees)

Mr. little, I'm happy to tell you that I don't know any blues songs. I'm more of a happy, enthusiastic girl about most everything, so I've never needed any sad songs to make me feel better because I never felt bad in the first place (not counting when BeBe steals the rest of my breakfast that I didn't eat right away.) So, I will save a lot of time by not trying to think of song titles.

If I were going to write a song in this category, it would be The Rest of My Breakfast Blues. That probably doesn't count.

BeBe has a darker side, so she picked this picture. This is BeBe's signal to hide under our mom's computer desk and shiver. I feel sorry for her, but I don't understand it. I personally think those lights are loud, but exciting.

Image Bonus: What gives you the blues? - While Esto's Wall of Hypocrisy got him a lot of JJC points, it was slightly overkill... so I gave the IBB to Lizbit for the cool picture of lightning.
