Lyrically Speaking - 2/11/16

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Feb 11, 2016 4:13 am

It's time for another unofficial Theme Thursday on Thursday... yeah, so much for going all free form this year. There's an underlying theme to today's game that you have to figure out on your own if you want extra points. You do want extra points, don't you? Marley is counting on you to stay out of his cellar...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. Radio, video
Boogie with a suitcase
Your livin' in a disco
Forget about the rat race

2. And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you, be with you night and day

3. Now he's in control, he is my lover
Nations stand against him, he's your brother
Been a long time, been a long time now
I'll get to you somehow

4. Picked up a boy just south of Mobile
Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal
I was sixteen, he was twenty-one
Rode with us to Memphis
And papa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done

5. Cold, late night so long ago
when I was not so strong you know
A pretty man came to me
I never seen eyes so blue

6. We make love it's all the same
Your eyes show nothing no lover's flame
Don't promise we can work it out
You can leave right now if you're feeling doubt

7. I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

8. The wind blew some luck in my direction
I caught it in my hands today
I finally made a tricky French connection
You winked and gave me your o.k.

9. Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do

10. There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.

11. He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times

12. All of my life I've been waitin' in the rain
I've been waiting for a feeling...that never, ever came
It feels so close, but always disappears

Theme?

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that will keep the theme going (I won't hold you all to the same strict standard I did myself).

Image Bonus: Show me a picture that makes it look like you're really, really trying to win the Image Bonus Bonus.

Marley is counting on you to stay out of his cellar...

That must be a "clue." I'll start looking for a football theme because you can get 1 or 2 extra points after a touchdown, 2 of course if we're talking about Peyton's probably last pass into the end zone to Bennie Fowler, who promptly gave that ball to Peyton. :D

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. Radio, video
Boogie with a suitcase
Your livin' in a disco
Forget about the rat race

Brandon McManus is the best.

2. And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you, be with you night and day

200 victories for Peyton!

3. Now he's in control, he is my lover
Nations stand against him, he's your brother
Been a long time, been a long time now
I'll get to you somehow

Three Super Bowl wins for us -- now we need just one to catch the Patriots, two to pass them. Go Oz!

4. Picked up a boy just south of Mobile
Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal
I was sixteen, he was twenty-one
Rode with us to Memphis
And papa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done

Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves, Cher

Uh oh -- no football.

5. Cold, late night so long ago
when I was not so strong you know
A pretty man came to me
I never seen eyes so blue

Von Miller is the MVP!

6. We make love it's all the same
Your eyes show nothing no lover's flame
Don't promise we can work it out
You can leave right now if you're feeling doubt

Magic Man, Heart

Still not football, but thinking about your last theme, it was the artists, and both these artists have one word names. That's what I'm going with if I don't get any more answers.

7. I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

"Right now Peyton's our quarterback. ... We all stand 100 percent behind him." - @bosweiler17

8. The wind blew some luck in my direction
I caught it in my hands today
I finally made a tricky French connection
You winked and gave me your o.k.

Moonlight feels right, One Word Artist

9. Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do

I can hear that last line, but nothing else.

After Peyton said he was gonna drink a bunch of Budweiser (the NFL's sole beer Super Bowl sponsor), Colorado's brewer association sent him a sample of a bunch of local craft stuff. Here's to you, Peyton.

10. There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.

Clinical, educational, cynical, or something like that. Anyway, Logical, Supertramp.

11. He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times

Elway will always be #1 in our hearts.

12. All of my life I've been waitin' in the rain
I've been waiting for a feeling...that never, ever came
It feels so close, but always disappears

Also MVP Terrell Davis.

Theme?

One word artists.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that will keep the theme going (I won't hold you all to the same strict standard I did myself).

Africa, Toto

"New Year's Day" - U2

3. Now he's in control, he is my lover
Nations stand against him, he's your brother
Been a long time, been a long time now
I'll get to you somehow

4. Picked up a boy just south of Mobile
Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal
I was sixteen, he was twenty-one
Rode with us to Memphis
And papa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done

"Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves" - Cher

5. Cold, late night so long ago
when I was not so strong you know
A pretty man came to me
I never seen eyes so blue

"Magic Man" - Heart

6. We make love it's all the same
Your eyes show nothing no lover's flame
Don't promise we can work it out
You can leave right now if you're feeling doubt

7. I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go (wanted to go)
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

8. The wind blew some luck in my direction
I caught it in my hands today
I finally made a tricky French connection
You winked and gave me your o.k.

9. Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do

10. There are times when all the world's asleep,

"Tubthumping" - Chumbawamba

12. All of my life I've been waitin' in the rain
I've been waiting for a feeling...that never, ever came
It feels so close, but always disappears

"Harden My Heart" - Quarterflash

Theme? Artists with a single word name (not sure if that works with U2 but it is the best guess I have)

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that will keep the theme going (I won't hold you all to the same strict standard I did myself). "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - Queen

Image Bonus: Show me a picture that makes it look like you're really, really trying to win the Image Bonus Bonus.

Me and BeBe aren't doing so well today. We don't know-for-sure any of these songs, but we will take a guess on one of them because the last line from the snippet matches the rhythm of the last line of a tune we're trying to remember. Evidently, this was not in the repertoire of BeBe's cat friends.
4. Picked up a boy just south of Mobile
Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal
I was sixteen, he was twenty-one
Rode with us to Memphis
And papa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done
Our guess is Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves, sung by Chair (or something like that.)
Theme?

It's hard to get a theme out of only one song, so we declare the theme to be Rodeo Camp. I didn't get a lot of turnout for the inaugural Rodeo Camp last summer, but we might try again. ES says he'll do it if he can be a bronc rider and BeBe will be the bucking horse. I'm talking with her about that.
Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that will keep the theme going (I won't hold you all to the same strict standard I did myself).

Theme? - Artists with the number of characters in their name (With no spaces) matching the song number. U2 made this a tad awkward, but I couldn't find a better two-letter artist out there...

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that will keep the theme going (I won't hold you all to the same strict standard I did myself). - Any artist that was thirteen characters long (ignoring spaces) was accepted... with an exception for elwood since he knew the theme and intentionally counted the space (And since Lynyrd Skynyrd is too Southren for him).

Image Bonus: Show me a picture that makes it look like you're really, really trying to win the Image Bonus Bonus. - Thank you for pulling out all the stops and asskissing for this one! Unfortunately, Vandal pretty much ended the competition early with that poor man's nativity set. That cracked my ass up. So he gets the IBB, making him the 8th different winner in 9 games. I like to spread the love...

Edited to add.... Esto was my second fucking choice.

Sprots gets a JJC point for pointing out she messed up when I didn't even notice it in the first place...
I should get five JJC points for that. Also, I should get a JJC point for every mention of our Super Bowl champs.
