I feel I effed it up
I'll go to J! Board & look for their recap
But my brain froze on so many things I know, know, know
Add that to the things I actually don't know....sigh
I don't deal with suspense & drama too well these days
There will always be another J! test, I guess

Re: I feel I effed it up
I feel pretty good (although I brain-farted on Heartbreaking Work of etc.. author.)
I thought it was Bret Easton Ellis, but blanked on his NAME. And as it turns out, it was Dave Eggers anyway

Re: I feel I effed it up
I, who listen to too many radio shows & even watch TV shows on this stuff too, this stuff being interviews with & about authors, had never even heard of the titles
On the other hand, I've been to see Old Faithful. But name its park? My brain was in the Smokey Mountains, I kid you not. But I couldn't even name that (wrong) park.

I did want to thank them for the periodic table question. I have a feeling that was right in my wheelhouse.

Yay! Mississippi Woman Author was Eudora Welty (she was the only one I could think of!)
Well...I guess I could think of Carson McCullers and Flannery O'Connor (who were both dead long before 1973, plus both being from Georgia!)
And, well, Harper Lee....who is from Alabama & only had one book at the time.

Re: I feel I effed it up
I can remember 4 I know I missed, including Mr. Curry's team, even though this was related to a BAM Q I got right
May be a while before J! board gets stuff up. I am going home.
Someone got shot in Boston recently over a parking space. And there's not even hardly any snow here any more, a few days later. Just to put things in perspective for myself.
(I got scolded by a cop a couple days ago, when there was still a lot of slush, for trying to park: "You can't block the middle of the street!". "Yes, officer". Of course, its hard to back into a parking space without blocking the middle of the street for, like, a minute. Rule of Cops: They don't want a discussion. So I went around the block & found another space.)

Yeah, I missed him. Don't follow basketball.
So that's 3. Robin Wright, Heartbreaking Work Author, & B-Baller.

"House of Cards" was on tip of my brain, but would not come out. Same with Yellowstone.
I also missed the nuclear thingie, even though its been so much discussed in the media.
I also missed our 4th president. I think.

Re: I feel I effed it up
depending on what I actually wrote, I either got 13 or 15 wrong. Maybe 7 were answers I actually didn't know; picked wrong stalk veggie in German, for instance. The rest were bad brain freezes. So I may have made the cut, but not if they move up the bar because lots of people who got frozen out last night will have played today.

Re: I feel I effed it up
I think the widely accepted assumption of 35/50 for passing is correct. There is no reason to raise the bar because more people are taking the test. These are scored by computer, and due to time and work involved when they already get enough to fill their contestant pool, I really doubt anyone personally looks at the tests.ghostjmf wrote:depending on what I actually wrote, I either got 13 or 15 wrong. Everyone who gets 35+ on the test goes into the pile for the audition city they chose, and there is a random draw for each city to decide who gets the in-person audition. They give another test at the in-person audition to ensure you didn't cheat your way to a passing score. At this point they don't care about 35 correct, as long as you are reasonably close they will be fine with your score as at that point they are far more concerned with how you play the mock game and how you handle the interview.

Re: I feel I effed it up
My 1st experience w/ J! involved passing the 10Q test on a brain bus tour, being invited to take paper test the next day, passing w/ a score of 37, I thought, but not getting invited to the mock-game/interview portion.
This was held in Rhode Island & maybe they were mad I wasn't a Rhode-Islander. Or, as I also theorized at the time, they had moved up the bar.
2nd exp was 2 years ago. I passed on-line test w/ what I remember as 37/38 (its on this board so I guess I could look for it), got called to in-person test, think I passed w/ above 35 on that too. Everybody there got to play mock game. I never got call to show, so I guess there was something about me they didn't like.
On the other hand, people whose stories they dwelt on, that they loved, haven't been on show either, at least not using same stories.
Well, I admit I sometimes miss J!, because it gets preempted for Patriots stuff a lot. I guess that won't be happening any more this year, huh? When they do that, they put it at some wonderful time like 2:07am the next day, but I'm often not coordinated enough late at night to
A. set the VCR for that,
B. remember to change the station to the affiliate that broadcasts J! &
C. remember to turn the VCR off, if I've used the one that I usually record J! on; it won't go into record mode if left on. The other one will.
If one of those people they loved were on on a night I missed, make that a 2:07am moved broadcast I missed, & didn't win, I guess I would have missed them.

Re: I feel I effed it up
Actually, the website problems work to the advantage of everyone who did manage to retake the test. If I had to guess, I'd guess that about a third to one-half of the people who were frozen out will not retake the test this year, either because they couldn't make the other two test times or they didn't complain or figure out how to go back and do so. So, there will be at least several hundred to several thousand fewer people taking the test this year compared to most years. That's not even counting the people who didn't want to go through the hassle of registering for "My Jeopardy" in the first place.ghostjmf wrote:So I may have made the cut, but not if they move up the bar because lots of people who got frozen out last night will have played today.
The only time I got an R2 callback on the Millionaire phone game was on a night when a lot of people reported problems phoning in.

Re: I feel I effed it up
That I had to log in twice last night, 1st to "My Profile" & then to the test link, almost did me in before the test even started. Having it kick me back at both logins with "name & password don't match" didn't help my state of mind much either, even though I got in on 2nd tries at both gates.
I feel, though, that anyone nutty enough to want to be televised not hitting a buzzer fast enough, or developing brain freeze when they did hit it, would persevere at getting through these roadblocks.
Having to watch that stupid clock for 47 minutes, with its warning "don't close this screen, you may not get back in" didn't help much either.
There are ways to simulate how new apps will work in real time & under huge traffic, & J! didn't employ any of them beforehand.
(Of course, neither did Obamacare.)

Re: I feel I effed it up
I just fake-took the test again, via the J! board. Making sure I entered what I think I entered yesterday. I can remember the answers I gave, blanked out on, all but one.
My official wrong count is 14 wrong if I got our 4th Pres right; I really can't remember whether I wrote down Madison or Monroe, & 15 wrong if I got him wrong. Not a great score, but should just barely pass based on a "35 right" cutoff, if that applies.

I would have totally blown last night's test. 18 wrong. Includes one right answer turned to wrong.

Just wondering. How would you have done on Tuesday's test? Perhaps the Web site problem turned out to be a blessing in disguise. --Bobghostjmf wrote:I would have totally blown last night's test. 18 wrong. Includes one right answer turned to wrong.

Re: I feel I effed it up
I tried Wednesday's test on YouTube, and got 40-41 right. I don't know if reading this topic beforehand helped.
On the actual test I took Tuesday (which everyone says was harder) I got 37-39 right.
I took Thursday's test on YouTube, and got 39-41 right.

As I posted somewhere else on these related threads, the 1/26/16 Tuesday test would have been better for me. But not that much better; I would have had a 37 or 38 score. Have to go back & write the answers down to be sure.
