Randi's probably kicking herself for not betting $5,999.
That would be almost as stupid.
The third place player's only intelligent bet was 0.
The two players tied for first have two intelligent bets, 0 or everything. Bet 0 and they ensure a win if the other player misses the question; bet everything and they ensure a win if they get it right.
Since the third place player can't catch either of the first 2 if they bet 0 (or even if they bet just enough to stay ahead of her if they miss), then she should plan to hold onto all her money and hope to finish ahead of the others if they miss. $5,999 sounds good but what happens if one of the first two decides to get cute and bet all but $2 or $5 or $10?
If there's only one sequence of events that allows the third place player to win the game, then he or she should hope that happens and bet accordingly. The third place player got what she needed but she still blew it.
As for FJ, it was about a five second get. The only 1957 event I could think of that would trigger that kind of commemoration would be the Little Rock school desegregation, and reading the rest of the clue, it was logical that the governor would be Clinton and that his presidential library would be there.
