RIP Haskell Wexler

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Tue Dec 29, 2015 7:04 pm

One of the best cinematographers of all time. He won two Oscars, for Virginia Woolf (when they gave separate categories for color and B&W cinematography) and Bound for Glory and had three other nominations, including Cuckoo's Nest.

Age 93.

Replay the '93 interview Fresh Air served up as their tribute. From being adrift at sea as little more than a kid in WWII '42 in a tiny refuge boat that held 17 members of the Merchant Marine, having to confirm, with fellow sailors one of them as having died during the long time at sea & help throw him over, to hanging out of a helicopter on a wooden *swing* to get the shots for one of his movies. Amazing.
