Sometimes, one just has to shake one's head, and this is one of those time.
Last month, Denzel Nkemdiche, a linebacker at Ole Miss, was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons (initially in the ICU), nothing football-related. Like many, I just hoped that whatever was wrong with the young man was taken care of and that he gets better. I respect the right of medical privacy, and leave it at that. He hasn't played since, and the Ole Miss coach has said he probably wouldn't be playing in the Sugar Bowl game either.
Then, yesterday, his brother, Robert Nkemdiche, also an Ole Miss linebacker and likely a top-10 NFL pick next year if he goes pro, took a bad trip.
Literally.

Sometimes, as I said, ya have to wonder. But then I remember that this isn't a new thing (c/r Len Bias). And I shake my head.
I hope both of these kids figure it out before it's too late.

Well, Robert "I can jump off of hotels" Nkemdicke was suspended for the Sugar Bowl. No matter, he's said he's going to turn pro in the spring. (He does know the NFL does drug testing, right?) That means he can (legally) sign with an agent -- and borrow money from him to make bail, etc.

Why does it seem like the Ghost of Len Bias seem to be hanging around these two?According to a press release issued by the Ridgeland Police Department, officers responded to 711 Lake Harbor Drive at 9:31 Monday morning for reports of an "unresponsive male." The call was deemed a "medical aid call," and Ridgeland Fire Department was called to the scene to assist, according to the release.
Nkemdiche was then transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Tuesday morning, UMMC said there was no patient listed under Nkemdiche's name.
