Survivor
This, for me, has been one of the very best seasons yet. I am so impressed with the strategy and gameplay that is being done.
Last night, was the highlight for me, with a shocking idol play, a cawcky second tribal vote session, and the totally reversed outcome of what was expected.

I was a little sad, though. I'd mentioned before that one of the players is the nephew of a local bridge player. It was Fishbach, and I found myself liking the way he was presented on the show. --Boba1mamacat wrote:This, for me, has been one of the very best seasons yet. They may regret not voting off Joe when they had the chance.

I was so happy to see him go, as I found him very annoying, with the weeping and the obsession with Joe. It cost him, because Spenser was able to get under his radar, and make the move.Bob78164 wrote:I was a little sad, though. Re: Survivor
He would still have to win the next 5 immunities in a row, but as long as he is around a loooong time to grace my tv with his awesomeness, I'll let him go at 4 LOL. I really like the game Spencer is playing though, and can see him and Kelly in final 3. The third member could be Tasha or Keith.Vandal wrote:They may regret not voting off Joe when they had the chance.

Gee, who would have thought that casting fans of the show, who study the strategy and moves necessary, and who are intelligent and motivated enough to improvise on the fly, could make for a great game? Wonder if any other shows might be able to use that strategy?

Re: Survivor
I've got to agree that this has been one of their best seasons yet - coming off a good one the last time too. The change-up from the usual solid alliance to the more fluid voting blocks is keeping it interesting. It's nice to be sitting on the couch and not be 100% certain as to what is going to happen when it's time to vote.
I'd like to see Joe win but know that it's not going to happen (unless he wins all the rest of the challenges). While I was happy to see what happened last night to keep Joe in the game, I know that he has still created a huge target on his back. Next time he doesn't get immunity I fear that he is gone.
There are several others who are playing a good, smart game that I wouldn't mine seeing get to the end - Tasha, Keith and Spencer come to mind. Of those I'd like to see Spencer win, as he's not only playing a smart game but he has seemed to spend the greater part of both of his shows at the bottom end of the pool.
Like to see them get rid of Abi though!

Re: Survivor
I prefer just the one hour episode each week although last night's double dose was fine with not much else on that was new that I cared about watching.
For the final 8 my rooting interests from least to most would be:
Kimmi (Nothing has changed one bit from S2)
Joe (The factors that make him #1 on many fans' list don't work on me)
Abi-Maria (I find her villainous ways fascinating - from a distance)
Spencer (He always plays a little too hard)
Jeremy (He's getting a better shake this season - not sure how much sharing one of his idols helped him)
Kelley (Doing quite well and sure did not need dad Dale around this time)
Tasha (Seems to be in good position to surpass 6th jury member from first time playing)
Keith (Nice to see the "old" guy (I'm a few years younger) doing well and trying to give Joe some competition on the individual challenges)
Stephen's "advantage" sure had a lot of "dis" attached to it although the execution of it was his fault.
This has been a very enjoyable season even with some of my favorite players leaving too early. Watching from the warmth of home it's impossible to fully appreciate what the players went through during the extended rain. Jeff and producers were wise to throw an unusual lifeline.

No, I wouldn't mind bringing back contestants for a second shot...as soon as all of us who want our first shot get our chance.

Mr. Marley, I had an excellent idea. I am going to write the tv producers to suggest one more special theme week: Lizbit's Very Best Friens! I will enclose a list.MarleysGh0st wrote:I guess you haven't been keeping up with all the Bored posts, lately.Estonut wrote:I don't think anyone here would mind WWtBaM bringing back contestants who have appeared before.

At first I was going to suggest two themes. The other one was Dog Week, and I was going to coach up BeBe, because I thought it would be fine if she started contributing to her own keep. Then she started crying, because (she eventually explained) that the last time anybody said that to her was when she was a professional athlete and she got hurt in her race, and her owner was not very kind about it. I had to tell her a zillion times that if she ever was on television and she got hurt, nobody was going to go away and let her die. I want to find that guy and bite his ankles hard! And maybe his face.
Anyway, I am sure Best Friens Week is an outstanding plan, and I think I know how to operate my mom's White Hot Glare to make it happen. I didn't think she'd mind, because I heard on tv that we were having a nice storm right now, and I thought, "How wonderful!" I love nice. Than my mom got upset with me and said, "Stop playing with the glare, Lizzle. I mean it!"
It turns out I had misunderstood the tv man. We are having an ice storm, instead.

I really, really wish my cousin had made it on (instead of Wigglesworth would have been my choice), but it wasn't to be. Still enjoying the season, although with T-Bird in the mix I'd be liking it more.

I felt so badly for him. He was soooo close to doing it again. Not much to do if you pass out though. I thought the fear of a women's alliance might actually do it.

I feel the best player didn't win here.
Winner is sentimental favorite & home-guy (I live in the town that borders theirs) as well, & I am happy they have the moolah, but best strategic player, as well as multiple challenge winner didn't even get 1 vote.

There's always talk about wanting to take weak players to the end so you'll shine; I greatly admire these finalists for not going that route, but when you're sitting next to someone who is more likeable than you & a strong enough player, you don't win. Looks like.

Glad to see that IMHO any of the final 4 'deserved' to win. One of the best, if not the best season ever. Much less predictable due to the mid-show event of the voting blocks and their aftermath. I was surprised that it was a sweep though.

Re: Survivor
Aw. Hardly anyone wants to discuss this but me. Hi Jaybee!
Anyway: interview I've read has Spencer kicking himself for not recognizing Jeremy as a major threat earlier. Thing is, you would assume that this group of mostly stellar (Abi should fall under a bus for her creepy remarks, but even she was a canny player when she had to be, much as I hate to have to say it) players really would vote for the best player, not the finalist they felt screwed them the least, or whom they liked best.
I vaguely remember Boston Rob not winning the one where he came close, probably because he was such an over-the-lop egotist, as well as manipulator. But I remember his girlfriend won, so he got to use the $$ anyway.
Spencer, I felt, went about his strategizing without disparaging people & mostly openly. And still got himself to the end. He gets all kinds of points on that from me.
Whereas Jeremy's "we're expecting!" announcement; I'm happy for the couple, as they're a nice couple, but as strategy or reason to vote for him it leaves me cold. I don't think it would have swayed me had I been on a jury for it.
I do greatly admire both idol-players, Jeremy being one, for playing their idols at the end when they sensed they were in danger. None of this going home with an idol this time around.
I will have to watch that "what happenned" at the stunner tribal again, though. I thought I followed it at the time, but its doing a "huh" in my brain on recall.

Re: Survivor
I think Spencer might have garnered at least a couple of votes were it not for the last two tribals. Up to that point he had been playing a game worthy of admiration, strategizing smartly and winning immunity challenges...his stated goal of upping his social game was being met, for the most part. But he reverted to some old ways at the worst possible times, bullying both Kim and then Jeremy...he even recognized it himself, basically saying he fell victim to panic and paranoia. He was correct in telling Jeremy that he had a better chance of winning by taking him along to final three than taking Wentworth...Wentworth had too many pals on that jury. But Spencer pushed it too far by telling Jeremy, in a very rude manner, that HE'D vote for Wentworth if she was in the final three because then she would've played a better game. If anyone was leaning toward Spencer before those two tribals, his actions likely ended that...well, along with one other thing.....
I hate being so cynical, but if Jeremy had been keeping his impending fatherhood from tribemates so that he wouldn't get booted for being too sympathetic a competitor to get to the final vote, he sure picked the most beneficial time for the big reveal...right before the million dollar vote? On the one hand, it WAS done as the answer to a question that was asked as to the motivation behind their "second chance". On the other hand, my cynical self has a hard time dismissing the notion of it being a pretty calculated move. I'll always wonder if Jeremy would've found a way to get that information out in the open if he HADN'T been asked that question, which DID come late in the jury grilling, but we'll never know for sure I guess.
Overall, I think each of the Final Four in his or her own way had a legit claim to winning...including the fact that each one, at different times and to varying degrees, wiggled out of a big target on their back. Although personally Wentworth annoyed the crap out of me with her snarky comments and her eye-rolling faces during tribal councils, it's hard to criticize the game she played. Actually, tribals were full of those face-pulling antics between Wentworth, Kass, Ciera, Savage and Abi-Maria, who hit new heights in the number of "want to throw something at the TV" moments. But yeah, I don't have an issue with Jeremy winning.

The impression I get is that the object of this game is to be the most devious lying and manipulating SOB, and the fans and other players usually admire the one who can pull this off. Is that about right?

Re: Survivor
Survivor continues to evolve (one reason why I actually like it more than in earlier seasons). One of the good evolutionary traits is that it is recognized that IF someone who is in control going into the final three chooses to take a weak, annoying player to the end then the jury is most likely to condemn that action by voting for the remain player in the final three. It seems like we have a jury that would like to think that if they hadn't been voted off, they would take the high road and only bring the strong competitors to the final three with them.
I agree that Spencer really screwed himself over with his threats to Jeremy at tribal. He would have been far better to stick with pointing out that Kim tried to make a move that went directly against their group of four strategy, got caught in it and therefore, she should be the one to get voted out. Once you get down to the final six or so threats are going to backfire both in the loss of jury votes from that person and in the way that the other jury members see things. At that level of play you can be rewarded in votes by being strong, by outsmarting others but not by being a bully. But even if Spencer did mess up there, I don't think it cost him enough votes that he would have won had he said things better at that tribal.
I'm not sure just how secret Jeremy was keeping the pregnancy thing. I know it was obvious to us, the viewers from his OTF interviews but there is no way of knowing just how many off-camera conversations he had with the others in the days before Val showed up for a visit. Of course the "doing it for my family" thing was planned - that's very much who Jeremy is anyway - but many in the final voice their 'need' to win the money. Can't really blame him but like Ghost, I don't particularly like it. That kind of plea is asking to base a wining vote on something completely outside the game, not your ability to outwit, outlast and outplay.
Ghost - If you want to re-watch the confusing tribal consider re-watching Jeff's play-by-play explanation at the awards show.
I really did like the fact that Kim gave Jeremy her final vote. You could see that she was pissed that Jeremy voted her off and it probably looked even worse to her since he was so verbal in that he was going to vote for her and skipped his way to write down his vote. But all that came about due to her actions - she tried to make a move, he was steadfast in his trust and belief in her yet he caught her in a great, big lie. While she was right to make the move that she did, it didn't work, she got caught and she deserved to be voted off for it.
Finally - If Jeremy picked a '2', Tasha picked a '3' and Spencer picked a '4' - did Wiggles really pick number 1 in advance?
