Tough $50K. I would have leaned towards Macdonald.

B: Survivors of the Titanic
I wouldn't have thought the survivors of the Titanic could award gold medals, but the fact that Marconi developed the telegraph led me to the right answer.

I would have already used my ATA, so I'll try the 50:50 and then walk away (none of my potential +1s would know this).

Great run, Lee Ann. Great play, and a personality to match. Very fun to watch!

For whatever reason, this Vanity Fair article from last year started trending on Facebook a week or two ago. It's an interesting article. Sandler still doesn't understand why he was fired, and still has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder over it. It wouldn't have done me any good since taping was in the summer, and I hadn't seen the article yet. Without the benefit of that article, I'd probably lean towards Macdonald.

Enjoy the money!

I would have gone with MacDonald with full confidence. I didn't recall any of the others being fired. After seeing the answer, I looked it up and found out that Sandler and Chris Farley (?!?) were fired at the same time. They both had popular characters on the show and were both between classic movies, so it seems unimaginable that they were both fired.

I use all my lifelines and then probably walk unless my Plus One knows it.

Popping in to throw in my two cents. Great run. I probably would have used my ATA with the Doctors w/o Borders to confirm. But the main reason I am commenting is because I don't think Norm MacDonald is big enough to host SNL. Unless they think him replacing Darrell Hammond as the Colonel in the KFC ads is big. Strange ad campaign, I may add.

Hi, everybody!! :D :D

Thanks, everyone, for the lovely comments!

In retrospect, I shouldn't have used the 50/50 on the Marconi question. If I had thought a little more about when Marconi was inventing things, I would have gotten to the right answer more easily.

When the SNL question came up, I remember thinking, "Darn, I wish I had that 50/50 now." :) I remembered seeing Chris Rock and Mike Myers on the show in recent years, so I knew they were out. I did think about Adam Sandler for a while. When I was taping, he was filming a movie near where I live which became controversial when a number of racist and sexist jokes from the script were published, and a number of Native American actors walked off the set in protest. I figured, though, that Norm McDonald was more likely just because I'd never heard of him.

At any rate, I'm really glad I decided to walk at that point.

Norm was the "news anchor" at the time that O.J. killed his ex-wife. An NBC big-wig, Don Ohlmeyer, was a friend of O.J.'s and didn't like the jokes norm was doing, so he famously had him fired. The second sentence of the Wikipedia article about him is, "He is perhaps best known as being the TV executive who fired Norm Macdonald from Saturday Night Live’s "Weekend Update"."

Nice run, Lee Ann!

Congratulations! I probably would've gone with MacDonald myself, although I didn't recall Sandler hosting either...MacDonald seemed more logical. I knew the other two had hosted.
