That was quick - Mizzou

#1 Post by SpacemanSpiff » Mon Nov 09, 2015 10:59 am

Maybe I've been asleep at the news switch, but the first I'd heard about the tumult at the University of Missouri regarding racial issues was yesterday afternoon on ESPN scrolls.

Then a number of players on the football team went "on strike," the coach canceled practice, and gave his support to the players doing so. (Not sure if Pinkel would have been so magnanimous if the team were 8-1 instead of 4-5).

One of the ongoing demands was the resignation of the university president; IIRC his car had been blocked by some of the protesting students during the homecoming parade recently.

Now I see where he's resigned.

Like I said, that seemed mighty quick.

Yesterday was the first I'd heard about it also. And reading some of the example incidents that sparked this "strike" I do not think they rise to the level of forcing the president to resign immediately. There must be a longer history. I'd hate to see that this is the new norm and with the bravado given the BLM movement from the media, and possibly now this, race relations have taken a huge step back.

And I would imagine the coach is now thinking "crap, now we WILL have 3 more consecutive losses and go 4-9." He'd much rather be 4-6 (though officially it would be 4-9 due to the forfeits).
