Trivia writing help?

#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Thu Oct 22, 2015 3:54 pm

I am hosting a trivia fundraiser for our local community theater next month, and I volunteered to write the questions. Since this isn't pub trivia, and since my A-V options may be limited, I've decided to go with a pretty straightforward format of 10 categories with 10 questions each, plus one extra question to be used in case we throw one out. Any extra questions unused at the end of the tenth round will become tiebreakers.

I like writing questions, but it's tough not having an editor. I don't know who will be coming from around here, so I can't just ask local people for help. So any constructive criticism and opinions about difficulty would be appreciated. I don't want it to be so difficult that people get discouraged, but I want to have enough "toughies" to separate out the good trivia buffs from the lucky ones. I figure this group would be a good sample of what a top contender would get for this contest. You're also welcome to play along and post your answer, if you wish.
Obviously, it will be most helpful to me if you don't look up answers. :) I'm going to post them sporadically, one category at a time. I should point out that since it's a theatre night fundraiser, there are rather more questions about shows, movies, entertainment, and culture than you would normally find at a trivia night. You know I won't be able to resist at least a few science questions, though.

I'll post under the thread title ECT Trivia night, Round #, category name. Don't be too discouraged by the categories -- specific knowledge of the shows is not usually necessary, although there are 1 or 2 questions in each of the first 5 categories (named after the five shows of our season) where you might know them better if you had actually seen (or acted in) the show.

Thanks in advance -- I'm having a blast writing the questions.
