How about ETHAN HAWKE? The first wife was UMA THURMAN.plasticene wrote:And I have the wrong question mark. Jude Law has only been married once, so he can't be the answer to #74.
Here's an updated consolidation with the clue for #74 restored and all the other question marks removed:

Frank's saying that the wrong one was still wrong but could be fixed with the correct info, I am thinking this IS DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS, JR.mellytu74 wrote:I think I have the wrong one.
46. Though usually thought of as a leading man, this actor did some of his best work when billed below other male actors such as Richard Barthelmess, Edward G. Robinson, Ronald Colman, and Cary Grant.
DAVID NIVEN
It's most likely DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS, JR.
Barthelmess is Dawn Patrol, Little Caesar is Robinson, Colman is Prisoner of Zenda (which is what led me to Niven), and Gunga Din is Grant.

This kept bothering me because I knew I knew it.
It's KARL MALDEN in On the Waterfront
30. In her first notable film role – the first of many – she played a young girl who grew up to become Mrs. John Profumo.
Valerie Hobson married John Profumo. So this has to be someone who played Hobson as a kid in a movie.

So, Charles Laughton and Maurice Evans. And ...

Re: Game #155: Teamwork at the Bijou
Frank's comment that he could have made the puzzle easier by including more than 40 pairs is intriguing. It could mean the pairs involve a category that has a specific number of elements greater than 40, like 50 states or 43 different presidents. On the other hand it may just mean he left out the most obvious pairings.

Don't get sidetracked on this. I left out certain possible pairs because those actors would have made the Tangredi more obvious. I'm pretty sure someone will pick up a pattern soon as it is. A key fact has already been mentioned.smilergrogan wrote:Frank's comment that he could have made the puzzle easier by including more than 40 pairs is intriguing. Re: Game #155: Teamwork at the Bijou
Here's one that's here twice.
Robert Redford was in All the President's Men opposite Jason Robards, also married to Lauren Bacall.
The actors on the list twice must have more than one Oscar winning spouse.
And Richard Gere in Chicago opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones married to Michael Douglas.

52. Toward the end of his life, this highly respected actor dubbed the voice of Mustafa in the Italian version of The Lion King.
Could this be VITTORIO GASSMAN?
That would give us
43. SIDNEY POITIER + Shelley Winters (A Patch of Blue) = 52. VITTORIO GASSMAN
AND I looked this one up, suspecting who it was (and I was right)
67. “I'm not one to use hyperbole, ladies and gentlemen, but I'll tell you this: for the first time in my life, I had the caca scared out of me!”

I cannot IMAGINE Frank doing a puzzle like this without including them.

I am counting. I think we may have an extra match.

Re: Game #155: Teamwork at the Bijou
This is Jean Simmons, who was the younger version of Hobson in Great Expectations and was in Hamlet with Laurence Olivier married to Vivian Leigh.mellytu74 wrote:30. She didn't play Valerie Hobson; Valerie Hobson played the grown-up version of her character in the same movie.mellytu74 wrote:30. In her first notable film role – the first of many – she played a young girl who grew up to become Mrs. John Profumo. (Who played Valerie Hobson as a kid??)

I meant a Valerie Hobson role. Beings as Hobson was Mrs. Profumo.

Re: Game #155: Teamwork at the Bijou
It makes sense that this would be someone in From Here to Eternity and I actually guessed this. Burt Lancaster was in a circus act with Nick Cravat and I looked up Cravat's filmography. Sure enough, he played the gremlin in the Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner in the plane.mellytu74 wrote: 2. 40. AVA GARDNER
So, this is Burt Lancaster who matches with Ava Gardner through Frank Sinatra.

Just so you don't drive yourself crazy, you've also used Sidney Poitier twice.mellytu74 wrote: USED TWICE: LEW AYRES, LAURENCE HARVEY, LAUREN BACALL.
I knew these would go down like dominoes once someone spotted the Tangredi.
I tried to avoid too many actors who would automatically make you think of their Oscar-winning spouses - people like Jack Cassidy, Gary Merrill, Robin Wright, or Rita Wilson. I avoided Douglas Fairbanks, Sr, or Buddy Rogers because I would then have been forced to put Johnny Mack Brown into the puzzle and that pair might make things too easy. And when there were marriages that included two Oscar-winning actors - Newman/Woodward, Oliver/Leigh, Cage/Arquette - I decided to put only one in the puzzle.

2. This actor’s longtime show biz partner is best remembered today for playing a gremlin.
BURT LANCASTER was the boyhood friend and showbiz partner of Nick Cravat, who played the gremlin in Nightmare at 20,000 feet.
He's going to fit with Nancy Kelly and Ava Gardner to finish up this thing.
