I flew from Dallas Love Field to Phoenix and went to the first game ever played by the Arizona Diamondbacks. It was also the first game ever played in the building now known as Chase Field, although it was known as Bankone Ballpark (or the BOB) back then. They had the roof closed at the beginning and opened it during the pre-game ceremonies. That was pretty neat to see. I would have thought that the motor would have made a lot of noise, but the roof opening was very smooth and quiet.

The Rockies won 9-2, which was fine with me since I had been a Rockies fan ever since I went to the first game they had ever played in 1993. That was in New York against the Mets, and I just happened to be living in New York at that time...

We were living in Ahwatukee, a suburb of Phoenix when that park opened. I remember all of the hype about Bank One Ballpark, but didn't feel the need to go visit.

To this day, my kids have never been to a baseball game.

They are philosophical about it. They know that the only way to enjoy baseball is to drink beer, and they know they are too young to drink.

Yeah, I'd have to have several beers to enjoy a baseball game too. :P

I'll give you odds that Maddie has had beer though.

She has tasted some of her Dad's beer, but she doesn't like it.

That's not true. I don't much like beer. I'm not even the biggest baseball fan in the world. Yet, there's nothing more pleasurable than a nice afternoon watching a game in person. (Television doesn't do it for me.)

I have wonderful memories of my dad and I going to Dodger games at both the Coliseum and Dodger Stadium. Peanuts, Dodger Dogs and Cokes was the fare of the day. And then afterwards, we would go to Philippe's, the home of the French dipped roast beef sandwich. Yum! I still go there when I'm on that side of downtown LA.

The first thing I would do as Commissioner of Baseball is eliminate alcohol sales at baseball games. If that meant I'd be the only one to go to ballgames anymore, that's fine with me. If I hated sitting by myself at the ballpark, I wouldn't go to Kansas City every year....

The next thing I would do is fix everything else that's wrong with baseball, but there still isn't a better sport out there.....

I made French Dip sandwiches for lunch yesterday. I have a great, easy recipe. It was a big hit.

Most of the games I've attended (other than my brother's long-ago American Legion games) have been college games, where no beer is sold. That may be why I don't even associate beer with baseball. I've been to only one major league game in my life, and that one provided the intoxication of getting to watch the lovely Rafael Palmeiro. Mmmnnn.

I'm really into all of this for the right reasons. You can tell.

Too bad Raffy didn't just stick to the performance enhancer we peddled. I sure as hell wouldn't be caught using anything from Pet Meds for my morning wood....

That either doesn't say much for the brand of beer Jeff drinks or that she's a wine snob. :P

Jeff likes microbrewed Hefeweizens and some Asian beers.
I don't like the taste of beer either.

As far as wine is concered, Maddie likes Rieslings and Gewurztraminers and doesn't appreciate Cabs or Syrahs. We let her take sips, but do not let her have her own glass at dinner.

But, you see, I knew the people who possessed those "natural born and kept bodies," so it would have seemed indecorous to ogle over them. I'm all about decorum.

How could there possibly be any other explanation?

There are many things to enjoy at baseball games: Cracker Jacks, peanuts, ahem....cotton candy and such.

And there is no place in the world a hot dog tastes better.

All of this is Truth!

Wait, did I have Cracker Jacks and peanuts? I may need to go to another baseball game soon!

Typical kid! I'm sure she'd love Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill. :P
