2015-2016 WWTBAM Season Details
It appears that this year's theme is theme weeks. There will be ten theme weeks this year. I wonder if any of them actually has a positive impact on ratings over just doing a regular show.

At least the theme weeks aren't littered with celebrity contestants all over the place. As long as civilians are doing most of the playing, I can handle theme weeks. They don't make me more interested or less.

Re: 2015-2016 WWTBAM Season Details
I think they've been doing about 150 shows per season. This sucks away about 35 shows for just anybody, leaving 115 episodes. Yes still not celebrity players, but narrow groups leaving many in the pool ineligible.
With the format change, we will see even less contestants this year. Under the shuffle format, many contestants would leave in six questions or less. Since they are going back to the rising difficulty format, with the first five being softball questions, I expect players will now hit 8-10 questions regularly.
So instead of usually seeing 3 players per show, I expect only 1 or 2 to be the new normal.
With $100k now being a free guess, I expect we'll see one $500k question with either a walk or incorrect answer, and about 15 $250k questions.
Now the only thing left to see is if they are going for good contestants or are they still looking for goofballs who burn a few lifelines on questions they are practically given the answers to. I also expect the writing to get even easier this year because they would really want to get someone to win (in which case they should just pick me
)
With the small sample size of 3/11 on this board from the pool getting on the show, I guess that would make the odds of getting the call 27.4%, and the odds of going through two seasons without getting the call 52.9%.

What! no Halloween Week?
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

But with (hopefully) less jacking around between each question like the last two guys did, they'll get the same amount of questions (or more) in each show this year.triviawayne wrote:I think they've been doing about 150 shows per season. With the first five being easy questions, that in itself will lead to less jacking around for about half the questions.

Interesting, they waited right up until the season premiere for both Cedric & Terry.

In the shows I saw this was def. not the case.. the first 1-2 questions were pretty easy but they def. got harder going up to 5,000. I saw only one contestant get to 50k. Most bailed out around 6 questions or so.. Some tapings had three contestants as people were going out early... I think its a harder game now.
Sad about the theme weeks.. that will def. be less chances for those of us in the pool.

Ditto on the belief that the game got harder. Looks like my air dates are gonna be 10/29 into 10/30, BTW.

Wow. That far out and you've been notified already? Guess I should keep my ears open. I was told I'd hear from them a week and a half before the air date.The_Raven wrote:Ditto on the belief that the game got harder. Looks like my air dates are gonna be 10/29 into 10/30, BTW.

I was looking forward to checking out the new season of WWTBAM this afternoon at its usual time of 3 p.m. in Austin, but now I see that Tyra Banks will take over that time slot, moving WWTBAM to 1:05 a.m. So I'll be one of the last people to see it each day. I understand that WWTBAM is being demoted to horrible time slots around the country, so you might want to check if that is happening where you live. It does not bode well for the show's ratings, or ultimate survival.

Still on the same channel and same time this season, and we're getting double-run episodes also.TheConfessor wrote:I was looking forward to checking out the new season of WWTBAM this afternoon at its usual time of 3 p.m. in Austin, but now I see that Tyra Banks will take over that time slot, moving WWTBAM to 1:05 a.m. So I'll be one of the last people to see it each day. The season starts out here in a few minutes. I'll probably check out at least the first episode via TiVo. --Bob

Re: 2015-2016 WWTBAM Season Details
OK, so I watched. First impression - at least TPTB had Chris Harrison explain the differences between the previous version and this one - the return of the 50:50 lifeline, no more random questions, two "safe" zones and no guaranteed $1K if someone doesn't make it to the first plateau.
As for Harrison as host, he certainly is an improvement over Cedric the Entertainer and Terry Crews*. He's more in the mold of Regis, although he still goes for some humor.
*Interestingly enough, there was a J! question about this on last night's show and it was a triple stumper - the clue was "Cedric the Entertainer and Terry Crews both hosted the daytime version of this show".
