Seven years ago today...

#1 Post by MarleysGh0st » Sun Mar 30, 2008 5:01 pm

Sonny's team of APs conducted the Philly auditions, with the 7 pm group starting the test right now. My first attempt (with the prolonged death of the Phone Game already in progress) and the first time I got to meet some fellow BBs.

And sometime this season will be audition #20.

<sigh>

And I was living in Philadelphia and missed the auditions because I was partying too much to stay home and watch the shows and hadn't joined the Bored yet. :(

Wow. SEVEN years ago?? That amazes me.

I remember it well. They asked me my pet peeve. I told them arrogant people. When they asked me to look into the camera and say something to Regis, I told him that I was a big Notre Dame fan and I almost didn't show up for the audition because the Irish women were playing in the National semifinal game that night. I remember seeing 'gor and Marley and probably some others I can't think of at the moment.

A couple of weeks later, I got the good card. I thought it was just a matter of time before I would be sitting in the hot seat. Like several of my 7 pm brethren, I'm still waiting.

Seven years. Damn.

I remember those- I was in the morning group (after driving several hours in a really bad rainstorm)...and gave a completely stupid audition that focused on the number of round 2's I had gotten...like THAT had any chance of impressing TPTB.

I think Trevor McAfee was in my group...seem to recall him saying he knew more about The Flintsones than anyone alive...and of course, he got the good card (and on the show, IIRC).

That was my next-to-last audition. Last was in NYC that November...when TPTB pretty much turned me off forever by de-selecting me before I ever had a chance to say anything...interrupting my answers and commenting on "how really tired they were".

Those were the days! Can't believe it was that long ago already!

I talked to Tracey about this last night. We might just take a trip this year to try again. It can't be any worse than the last time I auditioned in NYC! The only thing good about that trip was the company!

I was in your group, but was not the Flintstones expert. Nor did I get a good card or onto the PT show - that was actually the first of my three unsuccessful auditions - a circuit that included Philly, Baltimore, and DC.

The Happy Card came from my audition two years later in NYC for the Syndi show, on which I finally appeared in October of 2003.

It's hard to believe THAT was five years ago, let alone that the Philly auditions were SEVEN years ago. But, for now time is moving very SLOWLY as I wait for June.

Yep! That's why I joined: so I'd never miss hearing about another audition.

Here's another memory I have- wasn't it around this time that we started war-dialing for audition slots?

I know I had war-dialers for me, but I actually got through myself.

I felt bad because that was pre-DSL (and cell phone, so I couldn't call anyone else), so I had to wait until I registered to be able to tell my dialers to move on to someone else. The reg process took several minutes.

This was the first set of seven auditions. I don't think that war dialing became popular until the auditions became the only way to get on to BAM.

It blows my mind that syndi Bam has been on for 5 years. BTW- they just took Cindy off here and replaced her with some 5 year old sitcom.

I can't believe it's that long ago. But it is.

IIRC, I was either leaving the day of the audition for the Final Four in Minneapolis.

I think I met a bunch of folks for dinner/drinks the night before (unless that was a another audition). I ended up not taking the test until Baltimore.

AND, while in Minneapolis, met several BBs, including AD and the Spock clan.

Philly was half of the third pair of auditions in the Spring '01 series (I think you are thinking of the original 7 auditions from the Fall of 2000).

I don't know when war dialing first started in the GC, but it was around this time that it started to become publicly talked about on the Bored. This was about a month before robertl30 took war dialing to a new level with his infamous PIN generator....

Does anybody have a list with dates of all those 2001 auditions? I must have just returned from or been getting ready to go to San Diego, which turned out to be a most fortuitous adventure.

And fun, with great company, too!

The first three sets I can remember by heart, because they were such an integral part of the Sonny?Jennifer debate that raged that April after it was proposed by FloridaPete....

3/17 - Chicago & New Orleans

3/24 (Maybe 23) - Miami & San Diego

3/30 - Philly & Dallas

I know there's a list of the others somewhere that I think I saved, but all I could find was the bus tour list from 2002.....

Thanks, lb. That means that almost exactly seven years ago, I got the call to come to New York. I was at a conference in Fort Worth. The magic call came on the cell phone I'd bought specifically for Millionaire optimism. My feet didn't touch ground again for days.

Perhaps I smiled once or twice.

I didn't have much experience with the phone game since I was ineligible due to my appearance on another game show. But I did qualify for Chicago, and even managed to squeeze in the St. Patrick's Day parade. I met some bb's and had a great time. I even got a "good" postcard which eventually expired.
