You can add to the stats 2 Boston kids hideously hurt while playing with a firework they found in the street.

One kid's hand blown off. Other kid with severe burns on their face. Like in a war zone.

My Mom was slightly burned I guess over 55 years ago when a city firework spent shell fell on her. Those were the days when city said "sorry" rather than even offer $$. And we didn't sue. I think they had 1st aid people on site treat her.

ISIS didn't have to do anything this holiday but sit back and let idiots with firecrackers, inner city hoodlums, falling decks, sharks, out-of-control planes, wildfires and storms do their job for them.

This NFL star is reported to have not lost any fingers due to his fireworks accident. I just thought I'd try to contribute something positive to this thread.

I know it was absurd.

The bulk of gun owners handle their weapons safely. It's easy enough in this day and age of the Internet to find the idiots, but they're still in a minority.

In the meantime, it's a dangerous world, and people die every day...from guns, knives, cars, trips, falls...you name it.

Mr Kelley>>>Pretty rare period, and I"m not sure how celebratory gunfire is even relevant to the subject of this thread. And if Wikipedia is to be believed, the incidence of deaths from this type of irresponsibility has been declining for some time. But hey, by all means, keep making stuff up to confirm your biases.<<<

What stuff did I make up?

I see where Los Angeles is asking residents not to do Celebratory Gunfire. For some reason,Fargo does not have to make the same request.

I don't work guns into every post I make but when you spend two hours or more on the Fourth of July hearing this stuff and it sounds like Sarajevo, it's hard not to think about such things.

You should be thinking of ice dancing and curling. You focus too much on the biathlon.

At least when I use hyperbole, I'm consciously aware of it...and you even admitted you had no idea if real gunfire was happening amidst all the fireworks.

But what a scared old man you are.

It may be a very expensive firecracker.

Because Pierre-Paul is not under contract, the Giants can put him on the non-football injury list and aren't required to pay him, according to my understanding, if he's not ready to play.

The degree of stupidity Pierre-Paul displayed here is staggering considering the possible financial implications.

Oh yeah, as long as I'm telling fireworks stories, there's when an inhabitant of the fraternity house next door threw a cherry bomb into a party my brother, then either in college himself or high school, was having in our back yard. Miraculously, no-one was hurt. The fraternity had us over so they could formally apologize. They hastily pulled a curtain over a very large painting of a naked woman. Tasteful classical style, maybe a reproduction.

Yeah, throwing a giant firecracker into a crowd of people definitely deserves an apology. This was the 50s, that was what you got. And probably only because my Mom demanded it, now that I think of it.

We've got stupid people/fireworks stories in Michigan, too.

On July 4th, a guy in Allendale (north of Grand Rapids) decided to light a mortar type firework upside down. He injured his hands badly enough to end up in the hospital. According to the TV news, he was probably drunk at the time.

Also, there were several arrests at a celebration at a beach near Lake Michigan. You guessed it, more alcohol and fireworks.

At least it's quiet in my neighborhood tonight, after 2 nights of loud booming that scared my dog.
I'm just a game show nerd.

Didn't every high school have a story about a guy who did that?

And because of that, they must be banned everywhere.

Are you talking about dumb guys or high schools? The dumb guy couldn't do it if the HS weren't there.

You can't ban dumb guys. But you can ban the opportunities. So, the high schools should be banned.

I'm talking about the attitude that we should ban certain dangerous activities because there are a few dumb guys that perform them.

True that.

We should ban the lighting of mortars on top of one's head immediately. Problem solved.

Nah. We should only make that illegal if the person doing it has procreated already.

Because by then it's too late.

Another dumb idea:

Sheriff: 1 Dead, 4 Injured in Washington Ice Cave Collapse

The Pacific Northwest has had record heat all year. (I've heard about it, and I live in the East.) The caves have been melting for weeks. Common sense tells you not to hike there.
