Game #153: Brilliant Disguise

Identify the 100 songs in the clues below. (Most are from the pop charts, but we make several excursions elsewhere.) Then, match them into 31 foursomes according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Alternate matches may be possible – though I tried awfully hard to avoid it – but only one solution will complete the entire game.

24 of the songs will be used twice, each time in a different capacity.

No idea if this has anything to do with the Tangredi but #98 (BALL OF CONFUSION) was used in "Sister Act 2" and #43 (JEAN) was used in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie", both of which featured Maggie Smith.

Did I interpret the directions incorrectly? It just says to identify the songs, nothing about the artists. Trying to keep it simple. :)

No, you didn't. I started the ball rolling by treating this game like LS.
To avoid confusion: I never specify whether or not to identify the artists. So don't read anything into that. Sometimes the artists are important, sometimes they aren't.

Contributing the artists that didn't get filled in for me, and some info on Frank's clues.

7 is Stephanie Mills
29 is Patrick Hernandez
75 is either Major Harris or The Delfonics. Major was the lead singer for them, but I think this was a solo hit for him.
Dunno who sings 100. IAMMMMW, or who might've had a hit with it. I just remember this lyric from the movie, with its (under modern sensitivities) vaguely racist lyrics.

As far as inaccuracies in title, and misattributions for artist:

Can't imagine spelling will count, but when your meister is a Scrabble champ, it should be pointed out -- 25. is SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE, not able.
12. is just called MY NAME IS, without the alter ego name.

32. SEA CRUISE was originally done, I think, by Frankie Ford.
43. JEAN was originally done by Oliver, or at least he had the hit with it.
53. JUST ONE LOOK was originally done by Doris Troy.



And AAAH! I just realized #58 is THE RACE IS ON, that old country classic. "Here comes pride in the backstretch, heartache is moving up the inside." Wish we had Fanny here to tell us who sang it.

And 61. is DIRTY DIANA, by Michael Jackson

Of course, every time I see Coldplay and Ricky Martin in the same lyric game, I want the key to be Livin La Viva La Vida Loca. But I'm sure that's just another one of Frank's red herrings.:)

I wasn't sure of the exact title of this song, and it turns out it's just "MY NAME IS". Not sure if this is the somewhat incorrect title to which Frank is referring to...

I knew there was a reason the letter F kept coming to me on the Sea Cruise artist...

And boy, I sure missed a lot of songs I know on this list....
