Trivia tournament in Las Vegas. No, a different one.
Hey, y'all, long time, no post. How are things going around here?
I've been playing a pub quiz for the last few years with a local and state championship. My team won the Houston city final a couple of years ago and then came in second in the state finals last spring. This year they are having a national tournament in Las Vegas in late August. My team, Whiskeypedia, has qualified and as long as we get registered next Wednesday, we'll be heading out there August 27-30.
Anyone else play this game?

I hadn't heard of your league. The closest location to me is in Las Vegas.

They don't seem to have any locations in Central Texas, but if anyone on your team can't make the trip, I'd be interested.

We like this game because there aren't any audio rounds and it is less pop culture and more Jeopardy style knowledge.
I think we are good for Las Vegas. We are only allowed 5 at the table for the tournament and we have 7 going so we should be set.

I may see you there!!!! Remember this was also the company running the regional tournament in Tunica where I was asking for help. My other teammates couldn't make it. I LOVE they are doing a national tournament this time.
I much prefer Challenge Entertainment over Geeks Who Drink. The format is so much better IMO.

Tournament report:
We didn't win in Las Vegas. There were 202 teams entered but a few didn't show up. There were cash prizes up to 20th place with 11-20 all getting same dollar amount. First place was $20,000.
At halftime we were in 19th place. Missed a couple that we shouldn't have but mostly Qs we just didn't know.
By the end of the regular game we had worked our way up to 11th. Pretty far out of first on points but at least we were competitive.
This game has a final question sort of like Jeopardy where you can wager up to 30 points after you hear the question. It is always a "put 4 things in correct order" type of question. We had a good idea on 2 items but not the other 2 so we went with a zero bet hoping we could stay in the money. That didn't work and we dropped to 22nd place, 1 point out of the money. We missed the question but we probably should have wagered something just in case we got it right. If we had gotten all 30 points we would have finished 5th.
It was fun and I'll definitely go back if they do the national tournament again next year.
The final question (as I remember it).
Put these events in order from earliest to most recent:
A. Google is incorporated in California
B. a NASA space shuttle docks with the Russian Mir space station for the first time
C. the Toronto Blue Jays appear in the World Series most recently
D. Radiohead releases their album, OK Computer, in the U.S.
You have to get them all in the correct order or you lose your wagered points.
