I don't know what O'Reilly, Hannity or Limbaugh said yesterday, the day before or the day before. I don't have the time to watch or listen to them. That's a fact. The only thing I saw about O'Reilly was a teaser on the CBS morning show of some comic making fun of him. That's what passes for news on the main stream media these days. I didn't bother watching the actual spot, because I knew it's purpose. Outraging people like you by taking what he said out of context and marginalizing it. Alinsky stuff.

If these people are saying what I am saying, it's because they are thinking and observing the same things I am. As well as millions of other people.

How come you mention Rush Limbaugh to me every time you don't have a semi-rational argument on a subject? Why do you assume that everything that he says or believes in is irrelevant and hateful? Even if I did reference something Limbaugh said, why is that automatically rejected in your mind? Is he somehow automatically wrong about everything? How is that possible? Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Why do you not give him even a benefit of any doubt? Ask yourself that. Then tell me about my closed mind.

Right. My friends aren't racist. But they do appear to suffer from "glorious lost cause" nostalgia, which cause at its heart is racist. So far, no one has come up with "cause of the Confederacy" beyond the desire to keep keeping slaves that convinces me.

I think our modern mind can not begin to conceptualize the loyalty to "State" that was dominant at that time. That loyalty and conception of a state (Virginia, in Lee's case) was swept away by the Civil War. Lee went South because Virginia did-it is that simple.

My wife's aunt was in Hobby Lobby two day ago. She saw a bunch of bandannas with the Stars and Bars on them. She thought "I'd better buy some before someday you can't buy them." So she picked them up and right then an employee came by and said "I'm sorry, we can't sell those anymore." and she took them from my wife's aunt and walked away.

But when it comes time to do something that might alleviate any of these problems, other than to take increasingly harsh steps to make sure you control women's reproductive decisions, you always say that actually doing something will interfere with business and cost jobs.

Unfortunately, the Charleston murders "Had" to happen. Roof was one of "Ours." Roof had no criminal record and appeared to not be in the mental health system. The room-mate was an idiot-but other than that-I don't know of any other way to have stopped him-besides putting millions of people into re-education camps.

OTOH-the recent slaughter of the family and their maid in Washington DC (4 very cruel deaths)did not have to happen. He was an immigrant with a criminal record. The relevant governments and agencies directly have blood on their hands in this case (and countless others) because of their laxity in handling criminal immigrants.

That was overstated. Apple has confirmed that it is removing apps that use the Confederate flag in "offensive or mean-spirited ways." Apple is also said to be working with game developers to get the affected apps back in the App Store after replacing the Confederate flag. Most educational or generic Civil War apps remain available on the App Store.

Aside from what you think I think about these issues and problems or what I may or may not think are solutions, what are your feelings?

From what I see, you are O.K. with the black demographic's relative position in our society because you want to continue the programs that have been in place for 45 years. The problem with you is you see it as a black issue. I do not.

I see it as a culture/belief system issue and it is covered in race by your side of the spectrum. There are people of all races that are successful and all races that are not. If you can look beyond the skin color, the reasons are, at the core, all the same. That is how I choose to look at it. No one says the Confederate Flag (I'm calling it that for convenience sake...you are right, and people should know more about it- they should know, for example, that Georgia's flag is actually the CSA flag slightly disguised- and you can't tell me that didn't purposefully happen) is a symbol of the cause for the plight of black people today.

What they say is it is a symbol of a culture that fought to preserve slavery...and it is.

And such cultural values deserve neither honor nor celebration.

Obviously, the Confederate flag is not a cause of the problems that blacks and other minorities (and lower class whites to a large extent) face in this country. However, the degree to which Republicans are willing to pander to the relatively small number of people for whom the flag is important (often for racial reasons) is a large part of the problem in this country. It's only been in the last week or so that the heat became too much for many of those Republicans to bear.

It will be interesting to see how many of them "come around" to "supporting" gay rights now that opposing gay marriage is a far less tenable position to hold.
