I've been playing at the Flying Saucer in Garland, TX for almost a year. We got a new host a couple of weeks ago. Tonight, one of the questions was looking for Coach from "Cheers". I asked the host if he would have counted it if I had answered Ernie Pantusso. He said no, that he had to go with what what on his answer sheet.

Just be grateful that you have an alternative to Geeks Who Drink Trivia, which tends to become the only game in town when they move into a market. I find it pretty annoying, but I keep playing it.

I get very annoyed when I get a right answer but it's not on the sheet, and the host won't take it. A million years ago at a trivia contest fundraiser, the host asked a question where the answer was canon/cannon, but I buzzed in and answered ordinance/ordnance, which was also correct. This is an interesting concept to me.
Around here, I don't think there's a business that advertises itself (ala Geeks Who Drink Trivia).
OK,one that I can think of - McM Enterprises. But that's just one guy (Bill) and he specializes in fundraiser trivia nights for parishes and charities.
There are SOME Quizzo hosts who are so good that they get billing (Tonight! Quizzo with Peg Jones. Quizzo with Billy from Philly).
But I don't think there are businesses that run Quizzo at bars.

THey say to sulk silently if you dispute an answer at one of the bar trivias in my town. At another at the Cultural Center, they'll research an answer you dispute for a $50 donation.

In this era of smart phones, you think it would be real easy to research a disputed answer and have it resolved within a minute.

I assume this article was written by the same Neal Pollack who has since written several books, moved to Austin, won a few games on Jeopardy and now regularly plays at a couple local Geeks pub quizzes. I met him a few weeks ago at a book signing he did. I bought his latest book about a guy caught in a time warp and who keeps repeating his life, including a chapter about the lead character appearing on Jeopardy, but I haven't read it yet.Bob Juch wrote:When I lived there there was. I had a dispute with our local bar trivia person a few weeks ago. She asked for the Beatles' last album. I knew that Let It Be was recorded before Abbey Road but not released until after and asked her to clarify. To be fair, she was filling in for the regular guy but only said that that was all that was written on her sheet. I guessed Let It Be, she had Abbey Road on her sheet. Even after explaining the situation, I couldn't convince her otherwise.
