Wow, Burgess Meredith was in a bunch of animal-titled films aside from Of Mice and Men and the original Batman. Others to consider are Clay Pigeon, Joe Butterfly, The Cardinal, and The Day of the Locust.

Nicolas Cage was in Snake Eyes, to pair up with Samuel L. Jackson.

Brad Pitt was in 12 Monkeys.

Ashton Kutcher was in The Butterfly Effect, to pair up with Eileen Heckart and [Burgess Meredith or somebody else who might have appeared in a "Butterfly" movie if we need Burgess elsewhere].

Hey, it's one in the morning!! I just want to see if you're paying attention.

giggle, giggle, giggle
Hmph.

This is going well. There are a few matches I hadn't thought of -- including one entire complete triple -- but that will work itself out.

The second Melly mentioned Acquanetta and the Leopard Woman, I thought it was over. But it took a little while longer than that.

Burgess Meredith was Joe Butterfly (I used this in one of my puzzles).

Walter Matthau was in What's Up Tiger Lily. I have a feeling that's the third Tiger movie Frank intended, instead of Tiger Bay.

Groucho Marx was in Monkey Business.

I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but I think the phrase "allowing one variable" in the instructions refers to the admissibility of matching singular and plural forms, like Wolves and Wolf (but not Woolf :))

I think that's what it is, too.

We have Of Mice and Men and Peter Sellers in The Mouse that Roared, too.

For the record, I think the third Wolf movie might be Edward G Robinson the Sea Wolf (as fond as I was on my little Richard Burton joke)

We haven't hit the rabbits yet.

Kathleen Turner's voice was in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Nicole Kidman was in Rabbit Hole.

It's a trifle sloppy but I am not feeling so hot and am going to bed.

Game #151: Hollywood Menage a Trois

Identify the 80 actors in the clues below. (Every other clue is a quotation.) Then, match them into 32 groups of three according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Twelve actors will be used twice and two will be used three times.

Two more answers:

52. “A plague on you. A plague on the whole stinking lot of ya, without morals or laws. And all you whores got no laws. You got no honor. It's no wonder you all emigrated to America, because they wouldn't have you in England. You're a lot of savages, that's what you all are. A bunch of bloody savages. A plague on you. I'll be back.”

RICHARD HARRIS

72. “You know, I don't want to spoil the party, but does anyone notice that we're stuck in the middle of the ocean on this couch? Do you know what kind of sunburn I'm going to get? None, 'cause I'm covered in latex, but you guys are going to get seriously fried. I mean it's not like a – like a big gigantic ship is just going to come out of nowhere and save us, by gosh.”

WILL ARNETT

Unanswered questions:

5. She played the title role in a movie and took the title song from that movie all the way to #1 on the Billboard Top 100. Nine years later, she played the title role in a movie about someone else who took a song to #1 on the Billboard Top 100. Got that?

21. This British actor – who died this past January at the age of 82 – is one of a handful of people to have appeared in both the Dr. Who and Star Trek franchises.

51. He was the most recent British actor to receive a knighthood.

All of the partials are correct.

Of the completed triples, there is one that is a complete accident. I never intended the Robin to be part of this (and I would probably not have used Robin Hood twice if it had occurred to me.) So kudos for coming up with a triple I hadn't even planned on.

One of the triples also includes a movie/actor I had overlooked. It probably wouldn't matter except that one actor will be left an orphan. So that will work itself out.

:D

Olivia deHaviland will complete Snake (Pit) and we already have Costner in Wolf and Bull.

George Clooney wlll then start Fox. We could go with Bette Davis (Little Foxes) and After the Fox (Peter Sellers).

Jack Palance could be our missing "Swan". He did a voice in The Swan Princess.

Louis Gossett, Jr., is definitely our missing "Eagle". I forgot that he was in the Iron Eagle movies.

Christoph Waltz was in Water For Elephants. There's also The Elephant Man. Can't think of a third.
Will Arnett was in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ronald Reagan was in The Voice of the Turtle.
Robert DeNiro was in Wag the Dog. Al Pacino was in Dog Day Afternoon.

#31 almost certainly has to be Charlize Theron because she was in Curse of the Jade Scorpion, which matches up with Dwayne Johnson's The Scorpion King.

And Dolph Lundgren was in Red Scorpion (which SSS mentioned a while back) to complete that triplet.

All of the completed triples are correct, but in one case you will end up swapping in an alternative actor.

All of the partials are correct.

There are only two animals missing.

There is an asterisk by Jack Lemmon, but he has not been placed.

There is no asterisk by Joaquin Phoenix, but he has been placed.

You probably won't get the unanswered question until you get to the end, see what's missing, and work backwards.

Looks like Tiger is missing from the consolidation, which gives Jack Lemmon his asterisk, and adds an asterisk to Chow Yun Fat and a second one to Walter Matthau.

Pastor Fireball pointed out that Benedict Cumberbatch was in War Horse, so that completes the Horse triple.

I thought I remembered a movie called Turtle Diaries, and it turns out Ben Kingsley was in it.

I was thinking Hayley Mills for the tiger, rather than Walter Matthau, but it works either way. One is used twice, one is used once.

Tiger was dropped - I had Hayley Mills and Jack Lemmon but not Chow Yun Fat.

So, as far as I can tell, we need one animal.

Early in his career Joel McCrea wad in Bird of Paradise.

Bird could get us Bird on a Wire for Mel Gibson and The Blue Bird for La Liz.

DUH - ON THE OTHER HAND ...

BUFFALO: 20. CHARLES BRONSON (White) + 74. JOAQUIN PHOENIX (Soldiers) + 39. JOEL MCCREA (Bill)

THAT frees up Jean Pierre Cassel to go into bear for The Bear and the Doll with Bardot.

Bear: 32. WALTER MATTHAU (Bad News) + 13. DARYL HANNAH (Clan of the Cave) + 3. JEAN-PIERRE CASSEL
