Re: New Fireball Game: I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!
The Hitler reference and the word "blazing" made me think of Mel Brooks. And the common last name of the citizens of Rock Ridge.
So, we have 6. Donovan Bailey, rival of Ben Johnson, and 78. Ben Stein
10. James Boswell, biographer of Samuel Johnson, and 52. Samuel Kotz
40. Melanie Griffith, wife of Don Johnson, and 1. Don Adams
73. Emmitt Smith, played for Jimmy Johnson, and 31. Jimmy Durante
76. Tom Daschle, SD senator with Tim Johnson, and 30. Tim Duncan
To clinch it, there was a Confederate general named Bushrod Johnson (84. Bushrod Washington + 54. Robert E. Lee)
I still don't get the Henry V reference. Does someone get his johnson cut off in Act I?

Mark Ballas won Dancing with the Stars with Shawn Johnson. (He also won with Kristi Yamaguchi, BTW.)
William Masters's partner was Virginia Johnson.
Curt Schilling shared the 2001 World Series MVP award with teammate Randy Johnson.
Lyman Johnson was one of Joseph Smith's Apostles.
Andrew Johnson was impeached for firing Edwin Stanton.

Re: New Fireball Game: First Act of Henry V
I learn something every day.
There was a Confederate general named Bushrod Johnson in the Civil War, whose commander was Robert E. Lee.
Darrell Waltrip raced for Junior Johnson at one time. As an aside, Jeff Bridges played a character based on Junior Johnson in The Last American Hero, but his character actually had a different name, so that's a bit more of a stretch.
I'm sure that there are matches for Dwayne (the Rock) Johnson, Van Johnson, and Russell (the Professor) Johnson, but I don't see them here.

On the other hand, one of James Earl Jones's best roles was playing a fictionalized version of Jack Johnson (Jack Jefferson) in The Great White Hope, so my Jeff Bridges/Junior Johnson matchup might be right after all, and Darrell Waltrip might be here as a match with Darrell Johnson the baseball manager.

"We don't care if it's the first act of Henry V! We're leaving!"
The "we" referred to the entire town of Rock Ridge. So it was a very deviously disguised theme.
Reviewing all of the Blazing Saddles clues that I left along the way:
--"Nein! Nein! Achtung!" was said by Lili von Shtupp.
--"Right track" was a reference to a railroad, which was key to the plot.
--"Bored Buddy with a bizarre knack" contained the words "Buddy Bizarre", which was the name of the French Mistake director/choreographer played by Dom DeLuise.
--"Rock this game" deliberately included the word "Rock" for "Rock Ridge".
--"Run dry" was a reference to a desert, the setting of Rock Ridge.
--"Out of chaos comes order" was a cited Friedrich Nietzsche quote in the movie, which led to the classic reply, "Oh, blow it out your ___, Howard!"
--But of course, you remembered the most direct clue of them all, "blazing".
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)
"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)

Is there any way to make this clue fit Jim Backus?
It works alphabetically and would complete the Russell Johnson match.5. It's probably a good idea not to perform this entertainer's "salute" during a church sermon.

Re: New Fireball Game: First Act of Henry V
I knew there was an Olympic athlete named Michael Johnson, so I looked him up (sorry) and discovered he is even more associated with Donovan Bailey than Ben Johnson is.
Since no name can be used twice in the same capacity, this frees up Ben Stein to go with Jeff Bridges, which would then kill the possible Jeff Bridges/Junior Johnson match.

So do you guys not think Chris Rock is enough of a link for Dwayne Hickman to become Dwayne Johnson?mrkelley23 wrote:Just a couple of farfetched ideas, just to show that I actually have been thinking about this:
Dwayne Hickman could go with Chris Rock if the common link is Johnson. (Dwayne Johnson is The Rock's real name.) There are lots of other famous Johnsons, including several of the first names on this list.
All the Smiths must be first name matches only. Who do we know that have Emmitt, Joseph, Kenny, and Maggie?
Could there be nicknames involved? Professions?
Another famous Nellie is Nellie Fox, since SSS brought it up.
Can't believe I came that close without getting it.

All of the completed pairs are correct. One of the completed alternates is correct, but not both. Four of the five partials are correct.
