RIP Lesley Gore

Lesley Gore, teen songwriter and singer, has died of lung cancer at 68.

Me, I'll always remember her in a second-season pair of Batman episodes, where she introduced the song "California Nights" (and she gave Robin a bit of cat-scratch fever).

My best memory of Leslie Gore is her singing "Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows" on a bus to the ski lodge in Ski Party with stars Dwayne Hickman and Frankie Avalon listening in. Come to think of it, that's my best memory of that movie too.

That's The Way Boys Are and Maybe I Know were good ones, too, although the lyrics were not exactly feminist friendly...but she made up for it with You Don't Own Me, which was ahead of its time in telling the fella to go poop in his hat..

My dad absolutely loved her...I was happy that we were able to take him to see her, part of an oldies show, a couple of years before he passed.
