Shrinkage that can't be blamed on climate change

The Washington Monument now officially 554 feet 7 11/32 inches due to a standardized measurement change an a bit of lightening damage. 10 inches less than previously claimed.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Here's a news flash, there's plenty of guys out there that experience shrinkage well before they get to be the age of the Washington Monument and it wasn't anywhere near 554 feet to begin with.

Global warming (or at least art studio warming) is usually good to combat shrinkage.

The last time I was in the Lincoln Tunnel it seemed unusually dry. I wonder if that was due to climate change.

Officials have been looking at surveillance camera footage to see if Tom Brady or Bill Belichick were anywhere near the monument in the last few months.

Brian Williams actually went to the top of the monument when they built it to measure the exact size.
