I guess the seriousness of Williams lies is relative to one's value placed on the Constitution's freedom of the press and freedom of speech clauses. He and NBC will use the freedom of the press clause to access information (and gain situational access such as being embedded with the military) and then supposedly, as their role of the press, report to the citizenry the information. If they are not going to truthfully report the information they obtain under their rights as the press, then I think it is a very serious matter.

Freedom of the Press is only as valuable as the truthfulness of that press.

Do you mean Anwar Al-Awlaki? In November 2010, he was being tried in absentia in Yemen for killing a Frenchman, Jacques Spagnolo. Judge Moshen Allwan ordered him "arrested by force, dead or alive." That may not be justice by our standards, but Al-Awlaki went to Yemen and that's the law there. Then Al-Awlaki's father and the ACLU asked U.S. Judge John Bates to prohibit the government from killing Al-Awlaki, but the judge wouldn't. That's more due process than most Guantánamo prisoners got.

Flock, did you even look at that Jon Stewart clip I included and the many instances in which Politifact called Fox News on the carpet for flat out lies. Are there any of those misstatements you'd care to challenge? Or do you just want to continue to indulge your fantasy that because Fox News tells you what you want to hear, it's fair and balanced.

Pay a prostitute enough money and she'll tell you anything you want to hear and probably sound more convincing than the Fox News people. It doesn't make her fair or balanced or correct.

The real issue is that few people who watch Fox care whether O'Reilly is telling the truth or not, and neither does Fox management. The White House got it right when they referred to "NBC News" and "Fox." --Bob
