I don't like celebrity shows, but....

#1 Post by silvercamaro » Thu Mar 27, 2008 11:14 pm

Celebrity Apprentice turned out to be the best celebrity version of an on-going reality/game show that I've seen yet. I'll put the rest of this in a spoiler for anyone who recorded the show and is planning to watch tomorrow.
Spoiler
The finals put country-and-western singer Trace Adkins against Piers Morgan, a tabloid editor best known as the British judge on America's Got Talent, to raise money for their respective favorite charities. The likable Adkins proved to be a gentleman and a conscientious hard worker who gained the respect of every other contestant and Trump's board. Morgan often was brash, pushy and insulting, but he also was frequently funny to those who weren't the target of his barbs. More importantly, he was the most successful fundraiser throughout the weeks of the celebrity edition, and he was awarded the overall win.

I enjoyed watching this celebrity competition very much -- and that surprises me greatly.

I started watching but I stopped around the time that "The Donald" didn't fire anyone in that week in which the "likeable" team lost. Rules are rules and if you are not gonna follow them, then why have them?

I didn't watch the show this season. From your description, it sounds like I missed a good season of the show.

I've actually never watched the show but did tune in this time here and there because Lennox Lewis is a local guy. I've also seen Piers Morgan on America's Got Talent as well as the Paul Potts videos from Britain's Got Talent.

I totally agree that this show would likely be the best at having celebrities. It seemed to take nothing from the show and even added the charitable aspect.

"Lost" is not to be missed in HD, so I've been used to watching "Celebrity Apprentice" on tape later. With "Lost" away for a month, tonight I was able to watch the 2-hour finale of Trump & Co.

I thought the season was quite good with Trace & Piers deserving finalists. Omarosa vs. Piers was nasty, but he was very capable of holding his own.
Spoiler
Tonight Mr. Trump made the correct decision based on the game and how it was played. Piers earned the victory and no matter how abrasive he was, he was the one do declare the winner. It was a satisfying season and fans of previous seasons who skipped this one made a mistake.

I agree completely. The strange thing for me is that I have skipped the previous two or three seasons on the basis of total disinterest, but this one captured my attention early on, while I was channel surfing.

Add me to the list that watched the series and enjoyed.

I know where wbtravis will be sending his money when he loses the bet we have. Split two ways.

I have to admit one disappointment. Can we not have to watch Omarosa ever again, please?

I caught some of the shows, but not all. I did watch the finale. If you download Trace's song "Youre Gonna Miss This" from I-tunes, the money will go to his charity for the next two weeks.
Spoiler
The Celebrity Apprentice website had some pretty upset fans when Trace didn't win...sort of a good guy vs bad guy thing going. Their poll shows 64% think the wrong celebrity won. I have to agree that the right person won according to the rules.

Trump picked someone just like him as the winner.

I never watch these shows, or apparently even read about them, because damn, Lennox Lewis was on it? Those in the know might remember that I get vapours just thinking about the man!

Is Trace Adkins the country singer that's really tall with a deep voice and long hair? If so, I like him, his videos are funny and I love his voice.

Your description sounds like we're talking about one and the same. The NBC Celebrity Apprentice has his photograph.

Spoiler
Thoughts I have after seeing the finale:

- Trump could not have chosen anyone else.

- I want to work for Trace, I want Piers working for me.

- I do not like the above. I would end up firing Piers when he could not develop tact.

foodallergy.org

That is the website for Trace's charity.

I donated.

I would love to have any of you who can, do the same.

They have a place where you can say something.

I said:
Spoiler
Donald Trump could do no other than declare Piers the winner. I can do no other than declare Trace the winner. Piers has friends with deep pockets. Trace has friends like me.

Same here, Shiny. And I completely agree with those who say Trace was nicest, but Piers won, hands down, according to the rules of the game. I loved when Trump basically shut O-ho down. I was lol when Piers said to her "what was your name?" and her oh-so-witty reply? "And what was your name again, Piers?" oh, snap. Between that and her feeble insults re his dental hygiene, I sincerely hope she sealed her fate. Her fifteen minutes were over long ago.

She was fairly well behaved last night -- compared to the night she was fired, when her behavior was absolutely vile. I had seen her on talk shows when she claimed she created herself as a villain, that it was all an act. No, she is simply a despicable human being, and if I never again see her face on television, that's already too soon.

Oh, and for Fanny -- Lennox Lewis was an absolute sweetheart, as was Trace, with whom Annie wants to go live.

Here are my random thoughts on this season:
Spoiler
I've never watched before, as I can't stand "The Donald," and watching this kind of reinforced my perceptions of him. I watched because I was intrigued by the mixture of celebrities this time around. I'm glad I watched, but have no interest in watching again until they do another celebrity edition (unless I don't like that group).

I never saw Carolyn, but I know she was well-liked. Ivanka was a revelation. She was much better (nicer, prettier, savvier & sharper) than I expected her to be.

If I were George, I'd be upset to be replaced by "The Junior." He's a tool, just like daddy.

All three Trumps are quick to interrupt, but then don't take it well when they're interrupted back.

Omarosa should have been fired after the first challenge, when she insisted her celebrities not use their celebrity contacts to raise money. Since she sucked at challenges, I guess her only "strength" was twisting the truth and backstabbing her partners in the boardroom. Before this, I'd only seen her on talk shows and "Fear Factor," and will never understand how someone like her gets any more than her 15 minutes. Same goes for "Jonny Fairplay" and "Romber." OK, I understand it, I just don't like it. They are game show contestants, not celebrities. NTTAWWT. There are many BBs who are game show contestants who I'd rather see on TV than any of these people.

I knew of Piers from "America's Got Talent." I didn't know what he did before that. His contacts were impressive, but there was a distinct difference between how he approached them for money versus how he interacted with his colleagues and adversaries. There is no reason he couldn't have achieved the same results without being the obnoxious twit that he became on several occasions.

I became a fan of Trace. I will follow Pea's lead and add him to my CD collection, download his iTunes song and contribute to his charity. The only celebrities I noticed at the event were his friends.

I thought Carol got screwed by Donald's decision to make Trace and Piers the final two. I think she deserved to be in the final as much as Trace did. I see some of the reasons that DT went with Trace, but the battle of the sexes could have been an interesting alternate angle. The end result would likely have been the same, however, as she was on Trace's team and wasn't able to bring in any NY celebrities nor money.

Fanny, Lennox is a total sweetheart. That's why we're so proud of him. He was born in England but was raised here and went to High School where he discovered boxing at a local gym and the rest is history.

He has actually just dropped in on a Friday night basketball game at his old school - watched the game, signed some autographs. I might add that it is in one of the poorer areas of town.

He's truly a gentleman and you would have loved him in his business suits!

What a contrast to some other boxers I won't mention.
