So is next year's Super Bowl...

...going to be just Super Bowl L? Probably not; they'll use Super Bowl 50.

But will the next year be Super Bowl LI?
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

The Roman Numerals are back for Super Bowl LI, however.

They were seriously worried about the negative impact of calling it Super Bowl L.

Yes, ad even says so, "San Francisco Bay Area", like they they haven't actually finalized the details, just know its going to be in the general vicinity. Guess the marketing folks decided Santa Clara doesn't have the same draw. What are they worried about, not selling all the tickets?

I wonder if they advertised it as the San Francisco Bay area back for Super Bowl XIX...which was at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto.

49ers (XIX- 32 miles from Candlestick Park) and Rams (XIV- Rose Bowl, 14 miles from LA Coliseum) still the two teams that came the closest to participating in a Super Bowl in their home venue.

Big cities insist on keeping a claim on things, regardless of little details like political boundaries.

Such as the Big Apple still claiming a couple teams that really play in New Jersey.

Sometimes it works the other way. I don't think Waco ever asked to be credited for the Branch Davidians.
