Lyrically Speaking - 1/22/15

#1 Post by Super Creepy Rob Lowe » Thu Jan 22, 2015 7:04 am

Hey there... didn't mean to scare you like that peeking through your window. After LB caught me standing in his backyard watching the squirrels get their nuts off, he promised he wouldn't call the police if I hosted this Theme Thursday game for him. I've got candy... and cyberial cigars for everyone who gets the theme correct... oh, I can't wait for you all to share all your personal photos with me! Now I'll just stand over here to the side and watch you all play Lyrically Speaking while stroking my facial hair...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme....

1. I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can

2. But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams.

3. Radiation underground and in the sky;
animals and birds who live nearby are dying

4. I nursed him till the danger passed
The days went by, he mended fast
Then from dawn till setting sun
He practiced with that deadly gun

5. Friday night and everyone's moving
I can feel the heat but it's soothing
Heading down,
I search for the beat in this dirty town

6. Everytime I think of you, I always catch my breath
And I'm still standing here, and you're miles away
And I'm wonderin' why you left

7. Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me, though they're so small

8. What do they make dreams for
When you got them jeans on
What do we need steam for
You the hottest bitch in this place

9. Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason`s Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside

10. Hey baby even though I hate ya!
I wanna love ya
I want you!
And even though I can't forgive you
I really want ta
I want you!

11. Here's a man in evenin' clothes
How he got here, I don't know, but
Man, you oughta see him go

12. I pick myself up off the ground
To have you knock me back down
Again and again
And when I ask you to explain

Theme?

If I'm right about the theme, it'll be the first time in my memory.
1. I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can

Doctor My Eyes, Jackson Browne

2. But every song's like gold teeth, Grey Goose, trippin' in the bathroom
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in our dreams.

3. Radiation underground and in the sky;
animals and birds who live nearby are dying

4. I nursed him till the danger passed
The days went by, he mended fast
Then from dawn till setting sun
He practiced with that deadly gun

5. Friday night and everyone's moving
I can feel the heat but it's soothing
Heading down,
I search for the beat in this dirty town

6. Everytime I think of you, I always catch my breath
And I'm still standing here, and you're miles away
And I'm wonderin' why you left

Something by The Police

7. Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me, though they're so small

8. What do they make dreams for
When you got them jeans on
What do we need steam for
You the hottest bitch in this place

9. Now Daddy ran the whiskey in a big block Dodge
Bought it at an auction at the Mason`s Lodge
Johnson County Sheriff painted on the side
Just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside

10. Hey baby even though I hate ya!
I wanna love ya
I want you!
And even though I can't forgive you
I really want ta
I want you!

11. Here's a man in evenin' clothes

Man, you oughta see him go

12. I pick myself up off the ground
To have you knock me back down
Again and again
And when I ask you to explain

Hey there... didn't mean to scare you like that peeking through your window. After LB caught me standing in his backyard watching the squirrels get their nuts off, he promised he wouldn't call the police if I hosted this Theme Thursday game for him. I've got candy... and cyberial cigars for everyone who gets the theme correct... oh, I can't wait for you all to share all your personal photos with me! Now I'll just stand over here to the side and watch you all play Lyrically Speaking while stroking my facial hair...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme....

Theme? Artist names that end with a "stalker" letter "e". There is probably a term for the e, but it isn't silent e as the e does not change the sound of the word, at least not in the ones I identified.

Spoiler
Having reviewed the other answers, I'm betting lb had a theme in mind a little more specific. Each artist's surname is already an English word even without the terminal silent e.

Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) - Marvin Gaye

4. I nursed him till the danger passed
The days went by, he mended fast
Then from dawn till setting sun
He practiced with that deadly gun
Ringo - Lorne Greene (This name actually fits the theme twice, in a way...)

5. Friday night and everyone's moving

I search for the beat in this dirty town
Kids in America - Kim Wilde

6. Everytime I think of you, I always catch my breath

Perfect - Ariana Grande (The radio guys around here pronounce her last name "grahnd"... so that's what I was going by)

11. Here's a man in evenin' clothes

Man, you oughta see him go
Twistin' the Night Away - Sam Cooke

Cruel To Be Kind - Nick Lowe

Theme? - Artists with extraneous E's at the end of their name... defining extraneous here as the pronunciation of the word or name is not changed if the E is removed, and it also still forms a recognizable word without the extra E. Brown - Browne... Lord - Lorde... Gay - Gaye, etc. I believe I only accepted three correct answers for this theme, as just plain silent E's was not enough... you had to also mention that they were unnecessary in some way.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

If your Krox fit the exact theme I was looking for, then you got credit whether you got theme credit or not...

Image Bonus: Show me an image that somehow fits the theme of today's game.

Same rule applied here regarding credit... I was looking for images of people, things, or situations with such an extraneous trailing E. Scanning back through the game, I only see four images that fit, and I can't accept Weasel's since it was an exact artist included in the game. I did accept melly's image even though Greene had already been used for Lorne (I did not, however, accept her Krox as that's specifically stated in the Krox rules). That leaves TBone's Russell Crowe, and Search's Locke... and I'm giving the extra 5 for the Lost flashback and the good ol' days of The TUB!
