Lyrically Speaking - 1/21/15

#1 Post by Admiral Stockdale » Wed Jan 21, 2015 7:34 am

Who am I? Why am I here?

No, really! Today is National Squirrel Appreciation Day, and LB has me hosting a game on this most special of days to him!?!? I think LB put about as much thought into this 2015 LSWUe as ol' Ross put into our 1992 campaign. Oh well, Wacky Wednesday gives this old, dead sailor a chance to reminisce about my days at sea instead. Here's some songs that make we wanna pull up anchor and swab the poopdeck! Chips Ahoy, mateys!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. But no one heard them callin',
No one came at all,
'Cause they were too busy watchin'
Those old raindrops fall.

2. It's not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

3. They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky Claude was running in and out
Pulling kids out of ground

4. She sits on the dock a fishin' in the water uh, huh
I don't know her name she's the fisherman's daughter uh, huh

5. Whenever I'm with him
Something inside
Starts to burnin'
And I'm filled with desire

6. I work the seaways
The gale-swept seaways
Past shipwrecked daughters
Of wicked waters

7. As we live a life of ease
Every one of us has all we need
Sky of blue and sea of green

8. Off the wind on this heading
Lie the Marquesas.
We got eighty feet of the waterline.
Nicely making way.

9. Do you remember when we met
That's the day I knew you were my pet

10. Play the game
You know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on
Only you can do what must be done

11. Avarice and greed
Are gonna drive you over the endless sea
They will leave you drifting in the shallows
Or drowning in the oceans of history

12. Where can you learn to fly, play in sports or skindive,
study oceanography?
Sign up for the big band or sit in the grand stand
when your team and others meet.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that has to do with the sea, or has a sea word in the title.

The Captain - Guster (I saw them play this at the Anaheim House of Blues on Tuesday night. Check out the drummer. He starts the song with just a brush in his right hand (bare left) and drops the brush around the 53 second mark. He plays the rest of the song bare-handed, cymbals and all. It is performances like this that have earned him the nickname "Thundergod" from fans.)
