Lyrically Speaking - 1/19/15

#1 Post by Gimme A Squiggly » Mon Jan 19, 2015 7:51 am

Let's turn back the clock to the days when I still had a squiggly in my company logo, the Super 70's! Today's game will feature some of the songs from the 1970's that I've had burned onto the Mecca muzak CD's... and while I do hear LB is a fan of the music of that decade, I still won't play any of that shitty ass disco in my stores! I do have standards, you know.... oh, excuse me...

Can I get a hazmat cleanup in the novelty aisle near the lava lamps, please...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy

2. Sweet wonderful you,
You make me happy with the things you do,
Oh, can it be so,
This feeling follows me wherever I go

3. Well now, you step inside but you don't see too many faces
Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down
Competition in other places

4. He kept dreaming (dreaming)
Ooh, that someday he'd be a star
(A superstar but he didn't get far)

5. He'd say, Son can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes

6. If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor just do what you feel

7. Well, I ain't superstitious
And I don't get suspicious
But my woman is a friend of mine

8. She's winding them down on her clock machine
And she won't give up 'cause she's seventeen
She's a frozen fire
She's my one desire

9. And though my lack of education
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

10. Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm countin' on you to carry me through

11. Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
and strap your hands across my engines

12. I know you've got somewhere to go,
But won't you make yourself at home and stay with me?
And don't you ever leave.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist from the 1970's that you'd put on the Mecca CD.

Image Bonus: Post a picture that in some way represents the 70's.

The one decade when I was actually listening to music.
1. But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy

Crocodile Rock, Elton John

2. Sweet wonderful you,
You make me happy with the things you do,
Oh, can it be so,
This feeling follows me wherever I go

3. Well now, you step inside but you don't see too many faces
Coming in out of the rain to hear the jazz go down
Competition in other places

4. He kept dreaming (dreaming)
Ooh, that someday he'd be a star
(A superstar but he didn't get far)

Midnight Train to Georgia, Gladys Knight and the Pips

5. He'd say, Son can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes

Piano Man, Billy Joel

6. If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor just do what you feel

7. Well, I ain't superstitious
And I don't get suspicious
But my woman is a friend of mine

Keep on Rockin' Me Baby, Steve Miller Band

8. She's winding them down on her clock machine
And she won't give up 'cause she's seventeen
She's a frozen fire
She's my one desire

9. And though my lack of education
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

10. Beginning to think that I'm wastin' time
I don't understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
I'm countin' on you to carry me through

11. Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend
I want to guard your dreams and visions
Just wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims
and strap your hands across my engines

Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen

12. I know you've got somewhere to go,
But won't you make yourself at home and stay with me?
And don't you ever leave.

It was really hard to turn down melly's picture, but as always, when in doubt... go with the player who hasn't won yet, and TLITF's Elvis on the toilet totally killed me. The contorted face is what makes it... so he gets the 5 point IBB...

JJC Points:

smiler gets 2 JJC points for the scene from the J'wocks rookie hazing party (I'd recognize Tyler Skaggs' buns anywhere)...

Weasel gets a JJC point for a very perky Farrah...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for being a complete smartass...

frank gets a supermax for the in-game pictures... especially nipple ring Gacy, the midnight train to Georgia, and one of Jessie's favorite crybabies...

Beebs gets 3 JJC points because she got so many answers right, she didn't have as many humor answers! You're showing your age, dear...

TLITF gets 3 JJC points for near-death Elvis...

TBone gets 2 JJC points for Donna Summer's O-moment in Housewares, and Isaac's approval of that thought...

mrk gets a JJC point for Dapper Don...

elwood gets a JJC point for looking just like frank did during the 70's...

jarnon gets 2 JJC points for being a crook... and ear likewise gets a JJC point for unintentionally setting it up. The back to back Nixons made me laugh...

melly gets a supermax for her mascot days... and for the Pirates unsure what to think about her and her sidekick. Is that Kent Tekulve on the left?

Bob gets a JJC point for tin soldiers and Nixon coming...

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for a dirty mind...
