Lyrically Speaking - 1/16/15

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 5:41 am

Well, my notebook says I only have two completed Friday games so far. Eeny, meeny, miney, moe.... well, the one game is probably gonna be a pain in the butt for most of you, so I'll go ahead and throw out this matching game. The songs below can be paired together based on some underlying theme, so be sure to match them up when you are finished. Hopefully this weekend, I'll have some time to plan out my games for next week a little better than I did in Week 1....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 1 point for each correct match...

1. Little Joe never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York City`s the place where

2. Well, beat the drum
And hold the phone
The sun came out today

3. You know she dances
While his father plays guitar
She's suddenly beautiful
We all want something beautiful
Man, I wish I was beautiful

4. So I took her to my crib
And everything went well as planned
But when she got undressed it was a big old mess
Sheena was a man

5. A Salvation Army band played
And the children drank lemonade
And the morning lasted all day, all day

6. Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men

7. I'm talking pedicure on our toes, toes
Trying on all our clothes, clothes
Boys blowing up our phones, phones

8. Cause it takes me so long
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there

9. On your mark ready set let's go
Dance floor pro I know you know
I go psycho when my new joint hit
Just can't sit

10. I would work twenty-four hours
Seven days a week
Just so I can come home
And kiss your cheek

11. Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home

12. I know your anger
I know your dreams
I`ve been everything you want to be

13. I saw the decade in when it seemed the world
Could change at the blink of an eye
And if anything then there's your sign of the times

14. I am a man of the road
A hobo by name
I don't seek entertainment
Just poultry and game

Matches?

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another pair of songs with artists that would form a valid match (4 points)

Image Bonus: I won't make you know the theme of today's game to get the Image Bonus.... just show me a perfect pair.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side -- Lou Reed James Dean

2. Well, beat the drum
And hold the phone
The sun came out today

Centerfield - John Fogerty Joe Dimaggio

3. You know she dances
While his father plays guitar
She's suddenly beautiful
We all want something beautiful
Man, I wish I was beautiful

Mr. Jones -- Counting Crows. Wouldn't have gotten it without the repeated fifth line Picasso, Bob Dylan

4. So I took her to my crib
And everything went well as planned
But when she got undressed it was a big old mess
Sheena was a man

Funky Cold Medina -- Tone Loc. Not gonna try to do the diacriticals. Mick Jagger

5. A Salvation Army band played
And the children drank lemonade
And the morning lasted all day, all day

Life in a Northern Town -- Dream Academy Sinatra, Kennedy

6. Hold on to sixteen as long as you can
Changes come around real soon
Make us women and men

Jack and Diane -- John Mellencamp James Dean

7. I'm talking pedicure on our toes, toes
Trying on all our clothes, clothes
Boys blowing up our phones, phones

Tik Tok -- Ke$ha. Helps to teach in a high school sometimes. Mick Jagger, P. Diddy

8. Cause it takes me so long
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there

Manic Monday -- Bangles Valentino

9. On your mark ready set let's go
Dance floor pro I know you know
I go psycho when my new joint hit
Just can't sit

10. I would work twenty-four hours
Seven days a week
Just so I can come home
And kiss your cheek

Tuff Enuff -- Fabulous Thunderbirds Muhammad Ali

11. Look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes
Stroll around the grounds until you feel at home

Mrs. Robinson -- Simon and Garfunkle :) Joe Dimaggio

12. I know your anger
I know your dreams
I`ve been everything you want to be

Cult of Personality -- Living Colour Mussolini, Kennedy, Stalin, Gandhi

13. I saw the decade in when it seemed the world
Could change at the blink of an eye
And if anything then there's your sign of the times

14. I am a man of the road
A hobo by name
I don't seek entertainment
Just poultry and game

Long Tall Glasses -- Leo Sayer Fred Astaire, Rudy Valentino

Matches? 1-6 (James Dean); 2-11 (Joe DiMaggio); 4-7 (Mick Jagger); 9-10 (Muhammad Ali) probably racist of me; 5-12 (John Kennedy); 8-14 (Valentino); 3-13 (guessing Bob Dylan)

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another pair of songs with artists that would form a valid match (4 points) We Didn't Start the Fire -- Billy Joel, and Don't let's Talk About Lisa -- Lonestar. "Little Rock, Pasternak, Mickey Mantle, Kerouac" and ""You can talk about the truth, Mantle or Ruth, Fabio DiMaggio or John Wilkes Booth!"

Matches? All of the songs I identified mention one or more famous people, so I'm guessing the matches are based on that. Of course, I didn't recognize any with names in common so here are wild guesses:
1 and 5, 2 and 13, 3 and 11, 4 and 6, 7 and 14, 8 and 12, 9 and 10

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another pair of songs with artists that would form a valid match (4 points)
