Lyrically Speaking - 1/14/15

#1 Post by Peyton Manning » Wed Jan 14, 2015 11:46 am

Hey, Peyton Manning here! How are y'all? Since I don't have a game to prepare for this weekend, I figured I'd do my good buddy LB a favor and host an LSWUe game for him. I figure there's no harm if I end up choking Wacky Wednesday the way I did my last two playoff games... plus, it gives me something my pesky little brother hasn't done yet. Yeah, let's see you host an LS game without the help of David Tyree, Eli!

For some reason, the theme of this game is artists who had a hits late in their career when they were past their prime. I don't quite understand what that has to do with ol' Peyton... but hey, I'm getting paid for it, right? Like, at least a little Papa John's or something?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. Tomorrow's getting harder
Make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky
Got to make your own breaks

2. Knew you'd be a vision in white
How'd you get your pants so tight
Don't know what you're doing
But you must be living right, yeah

3. She moves like she don't care
Smooth as silk, cool as air
Ooh, it makes you wanna cry

4. We've got all night
Let's take our time
Tell me your secret
I'll tell you mine
When it makes us feel better

5. And then mama took me to grammar school
But I stopped off in the vestibule
Everytime the bell would ring

6. Everytime I look into your loving eyes
I see a love that money just can`t buy

7. The night is full of holes
There's bullets ripping sky of ink with gold
They twinkle as the boys play rock and roll
They know that they can't dance - at least they know

8. Coast to coast, there's a question
Everybody's always asking me
People want to know, everywhere I go
What can the answer be

9. Smokestack, fatback
Many miles of railroad track
All night radio,
Keep on running through your rock and roll soul

10. Home grown, on the bone
All the channels show the same old war zone
As I walk alone in the city
Makin' me an offer, now don't they look pretty

11. They put a parking lot on a piece of land
Where the supermarket used to stand
Before that they put up a bowling alley
On the site that used to be the local palais

12. Cause baby every time I love you
It's in and out my life,
In-out baby
Tell me, if you really love me
In and out my life,
In-out baby

Spoiler
I was thinking of listing songs by artists that I don't like, figuring that even their first attempt was past their prime.
Well, I did't...

BONUS: Detroit Made - Bob Seger. Now, I really like Bob Seger and his music. His kids were in the same public schools that my kids were in. I respect Bob for being involved in his the school events of his kids. He was almost always at their field trips and never made a big deal about the fact that he was there. I have fond memories of seeing him off to the side, watching, wearing flip-flops, and puffing on a cigarette. But Rockin' Robert Seger has turned into Rock No More Bob (although I do have to say that he looks like he is in pretty good shape for his current tour.)

The End

Peyton Manning wrote:Hey, Peyton Manning here! How are y'all? Since I don't have a game to prepare for this weekend, I figured I'd do my good buddy LB a favor and host an LSWUe game for him.

It's My Life - Bon Jovi (My favorite Jovi song... and it's from Y2K!)

2. Knew you'd be a vision in white
How'd you get your pants so tight
Don't know what you're doing
But you must be living right, yeah
Freeway of Love - Aretha Franklin

3. She moves like she don't care
Smooth as silk, cool as air
Ooh, it makes you wanna cry
Maria - Blondie (I think I only know of this song's existence because it was one of a handful of songs the Cardinals played during batting practice pretty much every game around 2000 or so...)

4. We've got all night
Let's take our time
Tell me your secret
I'll tell you mine
When it makes us feel better
Call It Love - Poco

5. And then mama took me to grammar school
But I stopped off in the vestibule
Everytime the bell would ring
My Ding a Ling - Chuck Berry

6. Everytime I look into your loving eyes
I see a love that money just can`t buy
You Got It - Roy Orbison (I believe this single was released posthumously... so he really WAS past his prime!)

7. The night is full of holes
There's bullets ripping sky of ink with gold
They twinkle as the boys play rock and roll
They know that they can't dance - at least they know
Vertigo - U2 (I have never been a fan of U2.... but this song kicks ass...)

8. Coast to coast, there's a question
Everybody's always asking me
People want to know, everywhere I go
What can the answer be
The Doctor - Doobie Brothers (It's also known as "China Grove II" since they sampled quite a bit from their earlier hit... but I love love LOVE this late hit from The Doobs!)

9. Smokestack, fatback
Many miles of railroad track
All night radio,
Keep on running through your rock and roll soul
Living In America - James Brown (This song and his prison term were the only reasons a kind growing up in the 80's would even know who The godfather of Soul even was...)

10. Home grown, on the bone
All the channels show the same old war zone
As I walk alone in the city
Makin' me an offer, now don't they look pretty
If I Only Knew - Tom Jones (Gotta love Tom Jones' take on hip hop! This song was played a lot on the college radio my freshman year, and was even featured a lot on MTV's "Buzz Cuts"...)

11. They put a parking lot on a piece of land
Where the supermarket used to stand
Before that they put up a bowling alley
On the site that used to be the local palais
Come Dancing - The Kinks

12. Cause baby every time I love you
It's in and out my life,
In-out baby
Tell me, if you really love me
In and out my life,
In-out baby
Love Never Felt So Good - Michael Jackson (Did nobody get this!?!?!? MJ originally recorded this song as a demo back in 1983, and it was remixed for Michael's most recent album (Not bad when you can release two albums after your death), and the version I am familiar with... which got brief airplay on my variety station, as well as appearing on the Mecca Summer CD last year (After "Let It Go", of all songs)... also features Justin Timberlake...)

Image Bonus: Show me something whose glory days are in the past.

Lot's of good pictures of has beens and never wases... but this is still the WWTBAM Bored, after all, so I'm giving the 5 point Image Bonus Bonus to Esto for this game!
