Re: Game #149: Hollywood Hookers: Complete Sunday Noon Conso
I knew some alternate matches would arrive to screw things up.
In one case, an actor currently used for one John was intended to be used for another. (The other John is much, much, much more famous -- a very big, big name.)
In the other case, though I tried my best to avoid this, a movie snuck in that had two actors who made legitimate matches.
Other than that, great work.
Incidentally, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure was the wrong movie that worked just as well as the right one. The quote given was actually from Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

I am wondering if we are looking for Kevin Spacey's character - John Williamson - in Glengarry Glen Ross, rather than his John Doe in Se7en.
ANYWAY ... here's what we have, along with the complete Lists A & B.

"I knew some alternate matches would arrive to screw things up.
In one case, an actor currently used for one John was intended to be used for another. (The other John is much, much, much more famous -- a very big, big name.)
In the other case, though I tried my best to avoid this, a movie snuck in that had two actors who made legitimate matches."
I am wondering if we are looking for Kevin Spacey's character - John Williamson - in Glengarry Glen Ross, rather than his John Doe in Se7en.
ANYWAY ... here's what we have, along with the complete Lists A & B.

Frogman was working on a theory that required character names with 2 "O"s in them, but discounted it because he couldn't find any for Reagan. I think he was looking for "oo" names, not just names with two O's anywhere...

A-36 - Phil Harris - Baloo (In the Jungle Book) costars Verna Felton who is in 'Dumbo'
and Hooker has a double 'o' as well - and jumped to an incorrect conclusion

I was also confused by this response - maybe it was because I wasn't clear on my proposed Tangredi:Estonut wrote:Frogman was working on a theory that required character names with 2 "O"s in them, but discounted it because he couldn't find any for Reagan. When I said double O, I meant two consecutive 'O's in the name - So Booth, Doolittle, Baloo and even the words in the game HollywOOd HOOkers all fit - but it didn't pan out.

I looked it up. Kate Bosworth was his co-star in Wonderland, and was Lois Lane in Superman Returns. I was so hung up on making him Doc Holliday that I didn't consider his other roles.mellytu74 wrote:Val Kilmer was John Holmes In Wonderland. Can't think of a co-star.
That should mean we're now down to the two alternate pairings.

Re: Game #149: Hollywood Hookers
Actually three alternate pairings. Two actors have not been paired with anyone. A third is currently paired with a movie, but needs to be paired with one of the remaining movies instead.mrkelley23 wrote:I looked it up. Technically, four. One of the remaining movies goes with an actor that has already been paired. The movie in the existing pair is correct, it's just that I inadvertently included two movies featuring actors from that movie.
One of the three unidentified Johns is a famous literary character. Another is cited in the movie's theme song.

Yeah, as he says below your post, he was. I brain-farted. As I went back through his examples to see if they were all consecutive "O"s, I noticed (but didn't think about) Jennifer Connolly. That made me think they didn't need to be consecutive. That's what I get for trying to help!littlebeast13 wrote:I think he was looking for "oo" names, not just names with two O's anywhere...Estonut wrote:Frogman was working on a theory that required character names with 2 "O"s in them, but discounted it because he couldn't find any for Reagan. Yes, that one was my fault. I failed to notice that Robert Duvall was in two movies on the list, and I hadn't intended to use him for either.mrkelley23 wrote:Denzel's John Q should actually be paired with Ray Liotta (Goodfellas).
I made a similar error with Harry Dean Stanton (Dillinger and Alien), but fortunately nobody got tripped up on that.

What makes this so funny is that Orson Welles' John MacDonald is one of the FIRST ones I thought about when I started looking at matches. The movie - Tomorrow Is Forever - made a huge impression on me, I guess.plasticene wrote:[John] Falstaff!
