AJC.com wrote:The GBI is investigating a predawn shooting Thursday that critically wounded the wife of Peachtree City’s police chief.
Officers were called to Chief William McCollom’s home on Autumn Leaf shortly after 4 a.m., according to Peachtree City police Lt. Mark Brown.
McCollom called 911 at 4:16 a.m., saying he had accidentally shot his wife twice, GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang told Channel 2 Action News. Margaret McCollom, 58, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center and is in critical condition, according to Brown.
No charges have been filed and a news conference is scheduled at 2 p.m. at the Peachtree City Police Department, Brown said in an email release. Peachtree Police, the GBI and the Fayette County District Attorney will participate in the news conference.
“The investigation into this incident has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation due to the husband of the victim being the Peachtree City Chief of Police,” Brown said.
Police have not said what led to the shooting, but the town’s city manager has placed McCollom on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation and an internal review, according to Brown, who referred questions on the incident to the GBI and the Fayette County District Attorney’s office.

According to this story, the chief says it was an accident.

Highly Trained Professional
Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The news this morning said he shot her only once. We'll see.

This morning, they played some of the 911 call he made. He sounded pretty calm for someone who had just shot his wife, but he is a trained policeman (and a highly trained firearms instructor). She was shot in the back and is still in critical condition. You can hear her moaning on the tape, while he says things like "Stay in there for me. Keep breathing."Bob Juch wrote:The news this morning said he shot her only once. We'll see.
He says that the gun, his department-issued Glock, was in bed with the two of them when it accidentally went off. I'm not sure what the safety protocols are for guns in bed.

Did he by any chance explain how a gun accidentally goes off? --Bobsilverscreenselect wrote:This morning, they played some of the 911 call he made. Re: Georgia police chief accidentally shoots his wife - twic
I remember a "Forensic Files" episode where a woman claimed a gun went off as she was removing it from under her husband's pillow. Forensic evidence proved that she was standing above the bed and at an angle to her husband's head when she fired. I hope the GBI is called-in and can determine where the gun was when it "went off".silverscreenselect wrote:This morning, they played some of the 911 call he made.
