This weeks rankings- The Hot 101 edition

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Mar 27, 2008 2:03 am

As promised, this month's expanded edition of the rankings offers a comparison to how the rankings looked exactly 5 years ago. The number in parentheses after each poster is their rank in the expanded edition of the rankings I did on the night of March 26, 2003. If there a BB has no number after their name, that means they were not yet a member of the 300 post club at the time of those rankings (Note: I currently list all posters with at least 250 posts, so those who do not yet have 300 posts, but are still listed in this rankings, will obviously have no previous rankings)....

And no, I didn't manipulate the numbers to create the occurance that happened at the century mark.....

I have just been overwhelmed with respect for the intentionality you have for this job, lb.

Intentionality: Is that a new euphemism for obsession/compulsion? :)

Not quite.

Intentionality has a purpose behind it - something bigger than one's own need or desire or addiction. Intentionality is broader than just one's self interest.

My apologies. I thought you made up the word, but it's apparently a very big word among philosophers; Google has more than a million hits for "intentionality". It can be bolied down to "aboutness"...and the rest of the discussion is far more that I can wrap my mind around, on only one cup of coffee.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intentionality
Every mental phenomenon (that is, every psychological act) has a content, and is directed at an object (the intentional object). Every belief, desire, etc. has an object that it is about: the believed, the wanted, etc.. Brentano used the expression "intentional inexistence" to indicate the status of the objects of thought in the mind. The property of being intentional, of having an intentional object, was the key feature to distinguish mental phenomena and physical phenomena, because physical phenomena lack intentionality altogether.

Through the works of Husserl, who took it over from Brentano, the concept of intentionality received more widespread attention in current philosophy, both continental and analytic. French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, in Being and Nothingness, identified intentionality with consciousness, stating that they were indistinguishable from one another, a position that was a stark contrast to Brentano's position that intentionality is but one quality of mental phenomena. German philosopher Martin Heidegger, in Being and Time, defined intentionality as "care" (Sorge), a sentient condition where an individual's existentiality, facticity, and forfeiture to the world identifies their ontological significance, in contrast to that which is the mere ontic (thinghood).
Whatever. I still think, for beast, it's about OCD.

depends on how you define slacker.
"Slacker" is a relative term.

Marley and Skoop are slackers compared to posters like HoltDad/Appa (up 107 slots), tBone (up 72), or even me (up 57).

Of course, maybe a better metric for "slackness" would be post differential from 2003 to now- since a mere ranking is a function of both your mouthiness and other people's mouthiness.

You couldn't very well go up 14 spots from #9, could you? :P

And then we have the folks in the #1 and #2 spots, which are apparently set in stone...

There's a certain honor and nobility in applying one's OCD in service to the Bored.

PS Today's a good day all around, George Karl said yesterday that Nene might play this game!

If you'd have both also tied with plasticene, I'd have run out in the street and shouted (Which at 2:00 in the morning would've probably gotten me shot). You both juuuuust missed that.....

Of course, this builds a lot of tension for next week. Unless they're very careful, somebody's going to drop out of the Top 100. Could all three of them post enough to jump past okiepat?

If you'd have both also tied with plasticene, I'd have run out in the street and shouted (Which at 2:00 in the morning would've probably gotten me shot). You both juuuuust missed that.....

Of course, this builds a lot of tension for next week. Unless they're very careful, somebody's going to drop out of the Top 100. Could all three of them post enough to jump past okiepat?

As it stands at this minute, plasticene is no longer a member of the Hot 100....

depends on how you define slacker.

One could also define slacker as someone who is not doing the work they are being paid to do and are instead posting on a message board.

Dah-DUM-dah-DUM-dah-DUM

That is the sound of my shark theme music as I stealthily sneak up on BDM. I am doing so slowly to increase the dramatic tension.

I wonder if I could do a rankings based solely on lost productivity.....?

LOL! We made it at the same time, Fannie! *hugs*
Thanks!

It just seems right that you made #100 at the same time. Congratulations!

I am not being paid and quite often I am multi-taking. :)
