Ryan Leaf Out of Prison
Ryan Leaf, whose NFL career was one of the most spectacular flops in history, was released from a Montana prison today after serving over two years on drug and burglary charges after being of convicted of breaking into doctors' offices to get painkillers. Although he has also been convicted in Texas on similar charges, it's likely he won't be serving any more time this go around.
Leaf, a quarterback, was drafted #2 in the 1998 NFL draft by San Diego after Indianapolis picked Peyton Manning #1. Many scouts felt he was actually a better pro prospect after a successful career at Washington State. However, Colts President Bill Polian overruled his scouting staff to select Manning. San Diego actually traded up to get Leaf, and among the players they gave away was Eric Metcalf. Leaf's career proved a spectacular failure, as he argued with teammates and was benched four games into his rookie season, following a performance against Kansas City in which he was 1 for 15 passing. After three years with the Chargers, he finished his career with Tampa Bay and Dallas. In 20014, ESPN rated him as the worst NFL flop of the last 25 years.
Despite all this, Leaf is only 38.

A classic case of unfulfilled potential. Hopefully having two years to contemplate things will help him get turned around.

Hold on... let my counting team verify this....
Leaf graduated college 1998
LB graduated college 1997
LB is 39
Leaf is..... 38!
Yes, it all rings true! And he wasn't held back in any classes at least. so that won't go on his permanent record....

Maybe he and Art Schlichter can get together and start a team.Vandal wrote:I smell a comeback.
[EDIT: Nevermind -- I just looked and see that Art's in prison again, this time for fraud, plus a variety of parole violations that kicked in while awaiting sentencing (i.e., drug usage)]
