Re: Jane Byrne dead at 80
I have one memory of Mayor Byrne, and I wish I could remember the circumstances.
This was during her term as Mayor, and it coincided with the years I didn't own a television, so I must have seen it over at my Mom's house. Or maybe I caught a newscast about it someplace. But I distinctly remember what was supposed to be a televised statement, and Mayor Byrne was keeping everyone waiting and waiting whilst the television pundits commented on the controversial issue she was supposed to make a statement about, whatever it was. So she stalked out to the lectern, made the statement that she was not going to make a statement, and stalked off. Maybe it was one of the endorsements that her Wikipedia article talked about.
