The Streak is over!

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Sun Nov 09, 2014 3:42 am

On Saturday, November 8, 2014, lb did not succeed in placing a post on the Bored. The Streak is over! --Bob

Has anyone heard from him? I don't know that I'd be getting all exclamation point-y until we know he's okay.

He reported on his blog that he is fine and the same technical issues others have been facing prevented him from posting yesterday.

Thanks, vandal. Puts my mind at ease.

Does it count if technical difficulties prevented anyone from logging on? Seems to me that the streak isn't dead yet.

Ultimately that'll be up to lb. But I'm guessing I know what his answer will be. --Bob

And I'll bet it's not the answer you're expecting...

As I mentioned on the blog post I did about this issue on Sunday, this wasn't the first time I was unable to get a post on the Bored during the lifetime of the streak... there were two other instances (PRoG moderation on 7/6/01 and an inaccessible Bored on 12/15/08) where that was also the case. And since I don't use automatic log in, there was nothing I could do to defeat the gremlins that have locked me out since last Friday evening. Had this occurred at some point several years ago, I would definitely not be counting the last six days against my streak....

However, like all such runs, eventually the pressure to keep it going starts to outweigh the benefit of running the number up even higher. There've been many days in the past couple years where I haven't even found anything to post in the morning, and sometimes have just thrown something up in the evening before leaving for work. A lot of times, that it would be a post that's even considered meaningless on this bastion of meaninglessness. I think I'm going to take this Bored hiccup as a sign... and an opportunity to officially end my nearly 14 and a half year streak...

5,254 days is nothing to sneeze at, and even I don't think the Bored would be around long enough for anyone to even challenge it. Let the record state that The Streak (6/20/00 - 11/7/14) has ended...

At least it outlived the show that birthed it (I don't count the abortion the daytime show has become as the same show that originally birthed these boreds).

Was there a benefit?

Of course there was. I'm not one of those pansies who believe running up the score is a bad thing...

Congrats, Beast. Don't let what others say talk you into officially ending your streak. I think it's a perfectly valid reason not to post.
