Hiyas. Mini cruise recap

#1 Post by Beebs52 » Fri Nov 07, 2014 9:45 am

So we took a cruise.

We boarded on Saturday two weeks ago and everyone was wired and up for fun. We found the piano bar, one of those in-the-round, sing along things. Pianobar Bob, originally from Long Island, was the entertainer. Nice guy, mediocre voice, but pretty good piano player. He had you request songs and also had a large repertoire of oldies and current stuff. His schtick was to have the crowd look at people who popped in the door and yell, "Holy ship! Come on in!" and they usually did and hilarity ensued. Like that. He started at 9 p.m. and played til 2 a.m.ish. You can see where this is going. First night we stayed till around 11. I wanted a shirt and was going to request a free one but couldn't bring myself to go back because...

The rest of the cruise involved me, not Jeff so much since he snores and actually sleeps, participating remotely in EVERY.SINGLE.PERFORMANCE. of f*!*#**% Pianobar Bob's routine, since our room was directly above the piano bar. No. Really. Pillows don't muffle and I seriously couldn't drink enough wine to make that sh****** go away.

His Hotel California is pretty good, as are his Billy Joel renditions.

I would just drift off to slumberland and there would come a roar from the crowd after Holy Ship, yada yada.

Someone in another stateroom on our floor, afflicted by this same tortuous disaster, went down at 3 a.m. one morning and yelled at him and the drunks to CUT IT OUT NOW!

Fun.
Well, then

Beebs --

I just spit the last of my morning coffee all over the keyboard.

I don't want to laugh because I can imagine the torture it was ... but, holy crap, that post is funny.

I sorta swore at Pianobar Bob the entire time in my head and still wanted a shirt, but I was afraid to go in because I wanted to coldcock him.

Did you bring up the issue with the ship's purser? With a deck configuration like that, I can't imagine that they aren't aware of the problem...which means they've got some splainin' to do!

I did mention it in the post-cruise survey. What made it a surprise was there was a one-day delay in performances, so I had a break and then it resumed much to my despair.

I can't imagine this is the first awareness for them either. Now we know what not to book on any future cruise. Look for anything adjacent, above or below your room.

That was one of the first pieces of advice I'd gotten about cruising -- if you have a chance to pick your cabin, get the floor plan to see what's directly above or below you. It might be under the pool deck, where the crew decides to rearrange the chairs while cleaning at 3am. Or something similar to your situation.

Other than that, how was the cruise on the Triumph?

You shoulda knocked on Pianobar Bob's door around 9 in the morning... and when his hungover ass got up and answered it you should've yelled, "Holy ship! You have gopher teeth!!!"

It was fine. Food was so/so with the exception of Guy Fieri's Burger Bar. BEST burgers we've had in decades, anywhere.

Don't think I didn't fantasize about doing something...
I also thought fer sure you would remark on my title. I realized it could be taken as a "Mini" cruise recap! Though I think the Disney cruise might have been better than this one.

That thought had occurred to me... but Pianobar Bob stole the show. He'd make a good Merry Man if someone were so inclined (And I didn't already have Pianobar Liberace)...

You could make him Pianobar Liberace's Gopherteething Cousin.

I will never take an ocean cruise again.

I might do the Viking River Cruise down the Danube and Rhine however.

My sisinlaw/broinlaw (they were with us and she's a semi-retired cruise travel agent) took the Rhine cruise. They loved it.
