There are probably also some people wondering about McCain's age and health. He would be the oldest elected president and a lot more people will think somewhat seriously about the possibility of a successor.Sir_Galahad wrote:That may have been true in the past but I think this year's election is a completely different story. McCain does not have the total support of the Republican Party base (yet) for obvious reasons. And, I feel that his selection of a running mate is crucial to his being elected despite the downward spiralling of the two Democrat candidates. Look at it this way, George Bush won the election after selecting Dan Quayle as his running mate, and his weakness as a candidate and a campaigner was pretty well exposed in the vice presidential debate (i.e. Bentson's remark that he was no Jack Kennedy)...Sir_Galahad wrote:As to their defeating McCain, I think that this would strongly depend on who McCain selects as his running mate.

It certainly entered my mind which is why I would like to see a good, strong conservative in the second slot.silverscreenselect wrote:

I believe she was / is on the long list under consideration. But, I think McCain may want to go with someone with a little more national recognition. Look at what Romney went through. He really didn't get rolling until well into his campaign and, by then, the media made mincemeat out of him. He did not have enough time in the national spotlight to give potential voters enough confidence to hang their hat on. The same would be true with Ms. Palin. Nobody, outside of Alaska, knows her so she would be rich media fodder.ne1410s wrote:Howzabout Alaska's governor?
